Help please!!
Hi all...
This is my first posting here, but I recognize a lot of you from mkp. I hope all the moms and babies are doing great! I'm looking for advice now...I had a skin breakout on my areola, accompanied by a long crack at the base of the nipple itself. Now everytime DS sucks, the crack opens and feels like the nipple is tearing away from the areola. I've been using a prescription all-purpose nipple ointment to clear up hte skin breakout, which worked. And I've been using a pure lanolin on the nipple and areola. But I can't get the crack to heal. What can I do? Thanks. L.A. |

You might also want to consider buying some breast shields in order to protect your nipple from being rubbed by anything. I found the worst culprit was my nipple getting stuck to my bras/breast pads and having to pull them off aggravated the area even more. The breast shields worked great for me. Nadene |

Let it air dry.
I had major nipple cracks during the first 10 days after DD was born and the worst cracks were at the base of the nipple. Every time I nursed I felt like the nipple was going to tear off.... Put some breastmilk and let it air dry. If you can, stay shirtless, braless for longer periods and apply breast milk every 30 minutes to the cracks.... That's how I healed my cracks in just a week.... FayeC "L.A.Power" wrote in message om... Hi all... This is my first posting here, but I recognize a lot of you from mkp. Now everytime DS sucks, the crack opens and feels like the nipple is tearing away from the areola. I had that. I found that if I could get her latch *perfect* (as opposed to pretty good), it was more tolerable. I tried lots of lanolin for awhile, and breastmilk and air-drying for awhile, and I'm not really sure which was better. It took 2-3 weeks to heal to the point where it didn't tear open every time she nursed, and another 2-3 weeks to stop being sore, but it did get better. Phoebe |
