Two of my daughters were like that. I found that out by accident with the
first, and then continued it and she was just fine if you let her blow off
some steam first.

My kids did this sometimes. I wouldn't describe what they did as crying
lustily, though. There was a particular kind of "I need to go to sleep but I'm
too tired" wail they got, and if you put them down there was a kind of "waaaah,
hink, waaaah, hink" noise, not very loud, and gradually the waaaahs would get
further and further apart and suddenly they'd stop.
