My kids want them, so far I have said no, but I do think
I'll get them quad skates in the spring.

if we had a concrete floor basement, i'd let him get Heelys if
he wanted, but real quad wheel skates are much more adaptable.
i have roller blades, but i can't use them here. i think i'll
yard sale them this spring.

Roller Girl by Dire Straits always ran through my head whenever I saw them.
But I never saw anyone who was in anyone's way. They were able to ride
without impeding anyone else.

Obligatory picky comment: the song is actually called Skateaway.

Great song! I love roller skating to it! :-) (Boys are allowed to
skate to it too, right?)

I have seen that too, but I thought it a bit much in a crowded store.

Did they interfere with others' shopping?

Yeah - the kids get carried away and whip around people, and are prone to
run
into things.

Local grocery stores have banned them.

I have never seen that, but I live in a lightly populated area.

Frankly, I don't see where that would matter. A boy cut me off in
front of my shopping cart one time. My view on them is they're a
nuisance unless they're in an open area.

Nan

I guess I would count cutting you off as interfering with your shopping!
