Default ME politics

1. 'Realpolitik and ME' by Martin J. Walker.
Today, One Click publishes Martin Walker's new paper entitled
'Realpolitik
and ME', now available on our website. Jane Bryant comments: "Walker
writes in his paper on the current four pronged strategy of the
psychiatric
lobby against ME/CFS patients that consists of the PACE and FINE
trials, the
PRIME Project, the assault on the One Click campaign and most recently,
the
so called 'Independent' Inquiry on ME/CFS in the UK orchestrated by Dr
Ian
Gibson MP." Bryant continues: "To steadfastly ignore the political
context
and realities which inevitably surround an issue such as a so called
'Independent' Inquiry on ME/CFS when proffered by a politician such as
Dr
Gibson whose links with Sense About Science, Genetically Modified crops
and
the buddies of Dr Michael Fitzpatrick and his ilk that are well known,
displays at the very least an extraordinary lack of common sense, not
to say
dangerous misjudgement."

2. Kevin Short and his "inquiry" debacle.
Angela Kennedy writes: "In relation to the so called 'inquiry' to be
carried out under the auspices of Dr. Ian Gibson MP, Martin J. Walker
writes
in his paper entitled' Realpolitik and ME': "Neither Kevin Short nor
Professor Hooper, or for that matter a number of others who quickly
tendered
evidence to what has turned out to be an entirely bogus offer, seem to
have
given Gibson's offer a moment's political reflection. It was as if the
words
`Independent Inquiry' mesmerised the listeners and they immediately
suspended their political judgement. `I'm an MP', said Gibson, `trust
me'.
Had either Professor Hooper or Kevin Short reflected for a moment on
Gibson
and his offer, they would have found cause to be concerned." We are
therefore rather more than considerably dismayed to see that Kevin
Short is
publishing material out on the internet seeking to trivialise the
justified
concerns of One Click over this Gibson et al `inquiry`."
