baby won't nap!-HELP!
all the sudden my 20 week old won't nap AT ALL unless he is being nursed
then held. then he sleeps just fine. if i put him down while he is still drowsy or sleeping he instantly wakes upa nd will not go back to sleep. i never held him to sleep before, he'd always go right to sleep in his bouncy chair or wherever but now he won't unless he is held. he does sleep in the car! yesterday i kept putting him down after he nursed so he can learn to put himself to sleep again but it didn't work. crying it our doesn't work either. finally we had to put him in the car and drive to get him to sleep. at that point, he had been awake from 9:30 to 5 pm! during the day, i could tell he was tired but he just wouldn't go to sleep. holding him will only spoil him some more. i also can't get him to bed early. last night he was so wired (probably overtired) and didn't go to sleep until after 11. the good news is he put himself to sleep after fussing. the bad news is, he only slept 40 minutes and i couldn't get him to sleep unless i nursed again. then he woke at 330 to eat and then at 6:30. he was wired after he fed at that time and for over an hour kept fussing and talking. twice he feel asleep on his own but that only lasted 5 minutes both times. then he woke and was wired again. finally i picked him up again and feed him again and put him to sleep next to me. then he finally slept til around 10. i usually put him in bed with me in the morning but wondered if this was spoiling him but since he only slept around 6 hours i had to do something. any suggestions? he doesn't get the 14-15 of sleep hours a baby should! |

I hate telling you this because it isn't particularly helpful, but E did something like this at seven weeks and the doctor said that babies sometimes do this and it will go away. She was still sleeping at night (with two wakings for bf'ing) but wouldn't nap at all unless she was being held. The doctor said to keep trying to put her in her crib/bassinet and not to worry too much about her not getting enough sleep. Time will cure this problem although it may make you crazy in the interim. Good luck. -- Melissa (in Los Angeles) Mum to Elizabeth 4/13/03 and a girl due early 3/05 |

all the sudden my 20 week old won't nap AT ALL unless he is being nursed then held. DD did this at about 10 weeks. I was told to swaddle her (which I had never done till then), and suddenly she slept for 3 hours at a time. But 20 weeks is a bit old for that. Put up with it till he realises he is tired? Whenever DD changed her sleep habits (like going from 3 naps to 2, or from 2 to one), she had a few days of not sleeping, or sleeping in 5-10 minutes snatches. Getting her to sleep at the end of the day required lots of patience (thanks DH!). Also, we rocked her in the cot which seemed to help get her off some times. Good luck, Cathy DD 8 Jan 03 EDD 8 Dec 04 |

I Highly Highly recommend the Miracle Blanket . It worked for my daughter
who is almost 2 months . It costs about $29.95 . They last forever . I bought mine off eBay . http://search.ebay.com/miracle-blank...ectZ1QQfromZR8 But you can check out the company at http://www.MiracleBlanket.com Well worth the price ...... My daughter also was very fussy, so I decided to give her a lactose free formula and we have had no problems since . Samantha, -- |
