Default OT need a hip surgeon

specifically hip arthroscopy, I need to get a 2nd opinion and it doesn't
look like I can get it instate, so I need some names elsewhere, so I can
make a choice as to where I travel to.
Thanks

Have you checked for those associated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in
Hanover, NH? The hospital is marvelous and people from all over eastern NY,
VT, NH and western Mass go there for any sort of specialist. I had my
rotator cuff repair done there [major tear] a year ago and was very pleased.

Not checked them out, but will do, it's a long way (we're just outside
of Seattle), but as yet, the lack of any other name instate, means
travelling for a 2nd opinion is looking likely - problem is, travelling
for surgery would be far more complex, but I'll cross that bridge when I
come to it.

On the West Coast, Stanford, Abbot Nortwestern Hosptial in Minneapolis,
Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Wash U. St Louis, Harborview Medical Center
(Seattle), Rush U. Med. Center Chicago, St. Joe's Pheonix, U. Mich., U.
Minnesota (Minneapolis), Mayo CLinic, U. Utah, U Iowa and UCLA made US
News and World Report Best Hospitals for Orthopedics list.

Or do your own search he http://health.usnews.com/servlets/HospSearch

I have only been in one of those hospitals (I also choached my soccer
team in a tournament outside it), they all excellent reputations (or the
universities affiliated with them).

Jeff

PS I know Mich and Chicago are not on the West Coast. But they have big
airports nearby, and are only 1 or 2 hours farther away than the the
other hospitals on the West coast, if that far, assuming you go by jet.

Thanks, Jeff, the problem is, searching through good hospitals is a
pretty slow method to get information, I've looked at several of those,
dig through, find the list of treatments, or go direct to the orthopedic
department, then eventually find out they don't offer hip arthroscopy,
it's an uncommon procedure, partly because hip injuries that could be
treated that way are less common than similar things in the knee, or
other joints and partly because it's a relatively new procedure, so not
that many people are confident to perform it, given how long the wait
time on the surgeon I have seen locally is, it does seem like it needs
more people who can do it. Anyway I did find someone who does it at
University of Iowa, so I have one more name, now I just need to dig and
find info about him.
Cheers

Good luck. I'm sure you'll find someone. I've been thrilled my shoulder
repair - three teensy holes for the arthroscopic stuff and even the PA
couldn't find two of the marks [can't call them scars] 4 months after. Talk
about marvelous! And my shoulder works well, too, which is a nice thing in
the bargain.

If you do end up considering DHMC, the major airport nearby is in Windsor
Locks, CT and is a straight shot down I-91, about 2.5 hours south of the
hospital. Then again, Yale-New Haven Medical Center is right there almost
in the airport! Talk about another major teaching hospital.

I wouldn't care how hip he is - as long as he's a good doctor.

I've had both shoulder and knee arthrocopies, the knee one was rushed
into, doctor skipping all the tests as he could find out inside, but
inside he diagnosed a problem that's only rarely treated by surgery, if
physio hasn't worked, so he should have come out and sent me to physio,
but he did the surgery, that you'd do if physio hadn't worked, which
thankfullu has had good results. The shoulder was more thought out with
a lower sucess rate than many procedure, but with risk of harm being
very low I eventually went for it.

The consultant here looks ideal, he's done research on hip problems in
another connective tissue disorder, I need to get in contact with them,
so see what they suggest.
