You can actually sign a waiver and not be forced to give your child
immunizations.

And if you refuse to sign it?

Why would you do such a thing? It is just acknowledging that you are
not
getting immunizations for your kids, and you understand that if the
disease
(such as measles) turns up in the community, your child may be excluded
from
school until the danger to him has passed. Why would you be so
uncooperative as to refuse to sign the paper? That makes absolutely no
sense.

Perhaps this might explain why: My brother received a letter from the
county
fire department regarding his property. It stated that they wanted him
to
sign an enclosed affidavit stating that he would keep the brush cleared
to
a
specified distance as well as other stipulations. He telephoned them and
politely told them to go pack sand. Then he tossed the letter into the
circular file. My point being that unless you invite these yahoos into
your
life, you are under no obligation to sign ANYTHING. Besides, what's the
purpose?

In the case of the immunizations, Chris, it's to protect the health of the
unimmunized children. And to make sure the parents understand how that
health protection will take place (ie: being barred from school if an
outbreak of the disease for which they are not immunized occurs). Why is
that such a bad thing? The school does not get anything from it.

I have heard that statistically, due to the virtual elimination of some of
these diseases, that the risks from getting the vaccination now exceeds the
risks from NOT getting it. However, that's irrelevant because such decision
belongs to the FAMILY........... not the government! Their system is
backwards. Instead of demanding signatures from those who refuse to
participate, it ought to be required from those who CHOOSE to participate.
Reminds me of the privacy changes made in the telephone companies some years
ago. Forever, the default was blocked caller ID. For some reason, they
decided to divulge your number to the other party unless you signed a form
declining such change. Common sense tells you that the ones who should be
signing are those who desire a change, NOT those who want things to remain
as they are.
