Tony Rizzo: The boy who cried for mercy
Tony Rizzo: The boy who cried for mercy
http://www.kansascity.com/news/neigh...ry/597171.html I fall down and hurt myself.” Again and again, that’s what 4-year-old Douglas Brumley told detectives about the freshly broken collarbone and previously fractured elbow discovered by doctors who suspected abuse and called police. They didn’t know it then, but Douglas was lying, adamantly covering up for the adult who should have loved him and kept him safe. She killed Douglas a month later. But it took days for him to succumb to the blow to the abdomen that ruptured his small intestine. Instead of mercy or compassion as he slowly died, his tortured cries were met with a beating that bruised his buttocks and upper thighs. One bruise left the distinct outline of a belt. I never met Douglas, but I’ll never forget sitting in a courtroom and watching the video of the adorable little boy with his arm in a sling as detectives unsuccessfully tried to coax from him what they suspected was the truth behind his injuries. Those images of Douglas in life were juxtaposed with the autopsy photos taken a month later that showed the extent of bruising on his body. The miserable circumstances of his life and the hideous nature of his death have had a profound and permanent impact on my life. What happened to Douglas, more than anything else, influenced my decision to become a foster parent. And my decision to become a foster parent has resulted in my adoption of three of the children that state social workers deemed fit to place in my home. Douglas was also a foster child who was later adopted. But an imperfect system administered by imperfect people set the stage for the tragedy that took the life of one innocent little boy. After Douglas was taken from his birth mother amid allegations of abuse and neglect he was placed in the care of and ultimately adopted by a foster family whose home was already overflowing with the kind of kids no one else would take. By default, they were the go-to home of choice for hard-pressed social workers. At some point his adoptive parents sent Douglas to live with their adult daughter and her husband. She, as it turned out, was ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of parenting a small child. At her sentencing she said that she grew up in an abusive home. It was all she knew. I don’t know whether that was the truth or blame-shifting. But I do believe that Douglas might be alive today if there were more families willing to take on the burden of caring for children like him. April was designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and although we as a society can’t do a lot about the fitness of some parents who have no business bringing a child into the world, a lot of us have the ability step up and ensure that kids like Douglas can be safe and loved. An Inconvenient Truth about Child Protective Services, Foster care, and the Child Protection "INDUSTRY" Child Protective Services Does not protect children... It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even killed at the hands of CPS. every parent should read the free handbook from connecticut dcf watch... http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US These numbers come from The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington. (NCCAN) Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS Perpetrators of Maltreatment Physical Abuse CPS/Foster care 160, biological Parents 59 Sexual Abuse CPS/Foster care 112, biological Parents 13 Neglect CPS/Foster care 410, biological Parents 241 Medical Neglect CPS/Foster care 14 biological Parents 12 Fatalities CPS/Foster care 6.4, biological Parents 1.5 Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per 100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a bunch of social workers. THIS IS AMERICA'S HIDDEN HOLOCAUST Currently Child Protective Services violates more constitutionally guaranteed liberties & civil rights on a daily basis then all other agencies combined, Including the National Security agency/Central intelligence agency wiretaping programs… THE CORRUPT BUSINESS OF CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES BY: Nancy Schaefer Senator, 50th District of Georgia http://www.senatornancyschaefer.com/...s.php?filter=6 This is Child Protection?
