6 months (ish) roll call

Unfortunately, the TV remote is the only thing she wants that badly. And when she gets it, she gnaws on it? This is one of DS's obsessions (ditto for the cordless phone). We say, "that's not for eating," but he doesn't believe us. -- Belphoebe |

6 months (ish) roll call (and RANT) -- thanks!

Hi everyone, snip I'm going to keep offering the solids. Maybe he'll be like Melissa's baby... Eventually, when he can feed himself, then he'll feel like eating. Or maybe he hates the soft mushy stuff and I should offer him biscuits and such. snip I got assertive with the moo today and got some pear into him. his mouth was tightly shut after the first mouthful, no matter how many airplane noises i made. i got the spoon close to his mouth and he grabbed it and shoved it in his mouth himself! it was pretty sweet stuff though, just pear and me milk but very naturally sugary, maybe that helped. he ate about 2 teaspoons of it! I wouldnt mind if he wasnt interested in eating so much if it didnt take so long to prepare. teapot |

Over early solids? his mouth was tightly shut after the first mouthful, no matter how many airplane noises i made. That sounds like a baby who doesn't WANT solids. I wouldnt mind if he wasnt interested in eating so much if it didnt take so long to prepare. Frustrating, but forcing/pressuring him to eat just because of the effort YOU spent preparing it doesn't sound very appealing to me. How about making up more than one serving and freezing it in an ice cube tray? That way you can just pop one out (or pop them out and store in a baggie) and warm it. Dawn |

6 months (ish) roll call
PS -- My inner pediatrician has to put a shout out for the 6-monthers (and
older, for that matter) around now needing some external source of iron, either in their food or supplemental drops. Breastmilk iron may be more bioavailable than others, but it's still not enough to prevent anemia. Mom's supplements don't do it. Little buggers need enough iron to get that oxygen to their busy little brains. Not at all necessarily true. My son is 10 1/2 months old, rarely ever gets anything other than breastmilk, I myself am anemic, but his Hemoglobin is absolutely perfect. |

Dawn Cringe away oh judgemental one! For the last week or so I have just been letting him play with food so he never actually got a taste of it, he enjoys bashing a spoon around though and I wasnt trying to get any into his mouth at all. By assertive I just mean that I actually got some on a spoon and put it in his mouth, it wasnt a big issue thing. The thing that was interesting was that he only really wanted the pear if he could grab the spoon himself, and when he did that he really wanted it. He didnt want to be fed by me, but needed to know what it tasted like so he knew if he liked it or not. I have been freezing stuff but ideally I want him to have the nicest freshest prepared organic produce we have. teapot and the Moo |

Dawn Cringe away oh judgemental one! Hey, FO. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Being judgemental is not necessarily a Bad Thing. Weighing ideas and actions for their worth and/or value is preferable to simply accepting everything coming down the pike. It's an over used word. Ah, I guess just overstatement on your part then, as to what you actually did. Simply putting food into his mouth is hardly "being assertive" with feeding, although still if he's moving his head away, that is a pretty clear indication he's NOT interested. I have been freezing stuff but ideally I want him to have the nicest freshest prepared organic produce we have. Sure, fine, great, whatever. IM**O**, if the key to respecting his gastronomic preferences lies in having food prepared so there isn't much time spent on it daily and you don't feel you have wasted your time if he doesn't want it, then fresh frozen is a Good Idea. If you had read the previous responses to Irrational Numbers thread you would have read my reply as it was intended. Don't bother replying as I am not going to waste time on you - I'm too busy mushing up food. teapot |

I'm barely pumping enough milk at work, so I pump early in the morning and use some of that precious milk to mix into his rice cereal or banana and he takes one spoonful and doesn't want the rest! ;( We're going to try pear next! -- Anita -- Always hopeful mama of Pillbug, 6 months 2 weeks |
