I was taking OTC Zantac 1-2x a day, and by my mid 20th week, it wasn't
helping at all and my dr prescribed the same med as what is in Zantac, but
it is double the dose, and I take 2x a day, and I still have a hard time at
night (I have taken to sleeping sitting up)

Elena,

Where did you get the dried papaya from? Regular grocery store or a
speciality one?

Thanks,

Kevin

Unfortunately, I don't know of anything medication wise, but when I had
haertburn, the only thing that seemed to help was papaya. I just bought

the
dried papaya and took that after dinner. If I did get heartburn it was

way
more mild than if I didn't take it.

Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear that! Maybe I will try Zantac OTC since I have
only just started having this problem.

I would talk to your doctor about Nexium. It works almost immediately,
it's very efficient, and lasts a long time. I took it and I think it's
great.

Now that's one I had not heard of. I will ask him about it on Thursday.
Thanks!

I lived on Mylanta during my pregnancy hearburn.

Is that about the same thing as Maalox? Because if so, that doesn't work for
me, unfortunately.

That's funny, and Kevin also mentioned apple . . . I wonder if it's some kind
of fruit enzyme . . . it would be great if something natural would work so as
to avoid the meds. Thanks!

A prescription of Nexium from my midwife is the ONLY thing that has helped
me. Also, check out the antacid Titralac. It's an antacid + simethicone and
the combo does work for me, but not like the Nexium. Check with your OB or
midwife first, of course.

Ask your dr about Aciphex... That works wonders! Zantac works good as
well.. you just have to remember to take it

I've never heard of Aciphex . . . is it OTC? I don't see the OB again

until
Thursday but I will ask him then if I can't find something OTC to work.

Is
Zantac OTC?

I'm pretty sure it's a newer prescription drug. I think my cousin sells it,
actually. I *think* it is safe for pregnancy, but you'd have to check with
your care provider naturally. Not sure if that's the correct spelling or
not. I could be wrong.

Leslie,

You did ask for strong medication .... but.... something I know works for

me
and it has helped my wife from her daily heartburn as well. Apple.... She
thought I was nuts when I told her to eat an apple but she did anyways and
apparently it helped. Of course I guess it depends on how bad it is.

UGH! This is definitly a case of YMMV, apples absolutely *kill* me and my
mother just brought me up a bag of super fresh macouns from their local
farm!
