Default What you can see on an ultrasound

I had my fetal medicine specialist appointment yesterday. I was surprised
during the u/s when the tech said "wow, would you look at that, your baby
has a ton of hair". Sure enough on the back of the head was tons of white
fluffy stuff. Who knew you could see hair on an u/s?! Everyone I've
mentioned this too thinks it's weird.

I've had a Level II u/s before and I don't think the u/s I'm having now are
any better, but maybe it's the skill level of the tech.

I've seen all the usual things, but this time the placenta, teeth buds, lens
in the eye, and now the hair.

How weird is that?

I've never seen hair, but most of my kids have been bald. The tooth buds
freak me out.. and frontal face shots. They look like aliens, or my kids
all have abnormally large eye sockets

Did you see the sex?

I thought the lens was gross. The tech was so excited about that - lol. We
have one really good shot of the face - full on, not profile. It's just
creepy.

Nope, amazing willpower, huh? Lol. I have asked the tech if she's looked
and she said no. She did at the first u/s I went to with her though. She
just uses "he" as does my Dr.

My friends are actually helping me keep my resolve. They all think it's
neat we don't know, I think they like guessing what it is

Maybe what you are having is a Level II?

That's pretty wild. My ultrasound is in three weeks and I will definitly ask
way more questions this time about what is what.

Wow - and I thought the lens of the eye was pretty groovy when we saw that
with this bub.
DD had literally tons of thick dark hair (a full head of glorious hair which
I could have curled if I'd been that-way inclined) .... and I'm suspecting
that this bub will also have a lot of hair since its a bit of a family
trait. Maybe I'll get a peek if my Ob gives me an u/s today (I have a new
Ob now and he seems to prefer to find the heartbeat on u/s than with the
doppler thingy).
How amazing that you could see the hair on the u/s.

I had a level III U/S with my first-which really does mean you can see every
bone in the kid's body! It's useful for diagnosing some problems early on,
but its creepy! I think I prefer the less detailed ones.

My husband always says that he figures the original idea for how space
aliens look must have been the result of someone seeing the first fetal
ultrasound g!

I was surprised the first time a tech pointed out hair to me also. It
was a late u/s around 36 weeks.
I have video of ds at 35 weeks you can see him blinking.
The later the u/s the less you can see at anyone time but you can see
some really great action.
