I was surprised the first time a tech pointed out hair to me also. It
was a late u/s around 36 weeks.
I have video of ds at 35 weeks you can see him blinking.
The later the u/s the less you can see at anyone time but you can see
some really great action.

Karen

Blinking?! How wild. We could see swallowing. Fascinating, isn't it?

I love it when she first puts the gel on my stomach and smears it around
with the "thingy" and all I see are baby body parts flying around - lol.

That is too cool Sophie! I go in for a u/s today and I am so curious to see
how detailed it will be.

I wish they'd do a late ultrasound on me! I'd feel better seeing that
everything still looks good, especially since I have struggled to eat and
had gross morning sickness a lot. But I admit, I just want to see a detailed
u/s!

I had one at 8 weeks which looked like a bean. And I had one at 18 weeks,
which barely looked like a tiny baby. You could see the head shape. But you
couldn't count toes, or see many details- it was mostly the experiences u/s
tech who could see what needed to be seen. I would LOVE to see an u/s and be
able to see anything-- hair, thumbsucking, fingers/toes, face, etc!

I think it's VERY unlikely the midwives especially would order one now, in
week 38. (I actually also would feel better knowing that my fluid levels are
ok/amniotic that is)..for some reason I have a paranoia that I am leaking
them slowly and they will be low! Crazy, I know. I have a thin discharge
that doesn't seem to be urine but the midwives don't think by my description
that is anything other than normal....and there's not THAT much of it, so
they think it's unlikely to be a problem because of that, too. I just want
another u/s because I want one, basically. I could probably get one if I
asked and paid for it myself since not medically necessary but I wouldn't do
that...

I personally think everyone should get a late ultrasound. That was the only
way my friend knew that her son (her 3rd child) would be born with a cleft
lip and palate. That was at 31 weeks. Couldn't do anything about it but
I'd rather know beforehand than be surprised at the birth. JMO.

Yours should be better than mine since you're further along. Your due date
is my oldest's birthday (can't believe she'll be 6!).

I can certainly understand that *feeling*, but would
it really be sensible to incur those extra costs and either
raise insurance premiums to cover (pricing some out of
insurance) or limit other benefits in order to provide
a benefit that doesn't make a medical difference? I wouldn't
have any heartburn saying that people could have one
routinely if they paid for it, but as long as there is a
very real economic tradeoff that exists, I can't see
having it as a covered benefit.

Best wishes,
Ericka

I guess I was just "lucky" All the ultrasounds that I have had have been
considered medicaly necesary so all 8 from Bonnie and probably the next
billion I will have with this baby will be covered. They actualy should
have done one more with Bonnie since according to the OB I saw last month It
sounds like the placenta stopped producing fluid since I never had a leak
and when they broke the sac nothing came out not even a trickle... I guess I
am lucky that I went into labor on my own... The tech at my last sonagram
with Bonnie had asked me if I had been leaking since the leval was low but
i had not been.

Oh, I absolutely believe that any medically *indicated*
u/s should be covered at any time in pregnancy. It's just the
ones that haven't been shown to make any difference that I
would question, given that there are clearly beneficial
procedures that insurance may not cover. If we have to
limit coverage somehow, ideally we would limit it based on
benefit to the patient.

Best wishes,
Ericka

I've never seen hair, but most of my kids have been bald. The tooth buds
freak me out.. and frontal face shots. They look like aliens, or my kids
all have abnormally large eye sockets

I thought the lens was gross. The tech was so excited about that - lol. We
have one really good shot of the face - full on, not profile. It's just
creepy.

Did you see the sex?

Denise

Nope, amazing willpower, huh? Lol. I have asked the tech if she's looked
and she said no. She did at the first u/s I went to with her though. She
just uses "he" as does my Dr.

My friends are actually helping me keep my resolve. They all think it's
neat we don't know, I think they like guessing what it is

Heh...Sophie, when I read earlier that you were tempted to find out
the sex and not tell D., I just knew that you wouldn't do that! Don't
know why but it just didn't seem to me at all like something you would
do! lol...you *do* have amazing willpower but something more than
that...for me, it's called integrity!!! ...C.
