Default High Platelet Count Question.

My 2 1/2 yr daughter had CBC test done. pretty much everthing was
normal, except for her Platlet Count was high. It was 553,000
("Normal" is 250,000-400,000) She is normal active child and as i said
other things in the CBC where fine. Anyone elses kids experience this,
is it some thing to worry about? Also, she border line anemic,
According to the finger prick test. Thanks!

Have a look at this http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/...mbocytosis.htm
It may be just from the anemia - you will see that, and infections
listed as potential causes.

Don't freak out about the scary causes - odds are its the simple
explanation in an otherwide healthy active child.

Mary G.
(whose had the opposite problem, and again, although there are scary
causes, the simple one...aftermath of an infection...was the cause)

Quote: Abnormally high platelet levels (thrombocytosis) may indicate either
a *** benign reaction to an infection, surgery, or certain medications*** ;
or a disease like polycythemia vera, in which the bone marrow produces too
many platelets too quickly.

I also forgot to add that she get nose bleeds sometimes. I believe
this is hereditary because I got them a lot as a kid and still get
them sometimes as a adult. I read some where that blood lose can be a
a cause of high platelets. Is this the type of "Blood lose" They are
talking about?
