Is my period trying to come back?

I gave birth to DS on 7/22. I pumped up until the beginning of this month.
I am no longer nusing. So far this month, I have had what appears to be
spotting when I wiped after urinating. My mucous has been very egg-white
like and have been experiencing cramping lately. Is this my period trying
to come back?

Or you are ovulating, and your period will come in about two weeks...

I'm not sure periods as such try to come back!

I guess you'll know when you know, sorry, things just aren't that clear
after childbirth!

Did you see I posted as message for you yesterday, I realised we hadn't
heard from you since before your baby was born, unless you metamorphosed
into another user name!

Really? Can you ovulate without ever having gotten your period? It sure
does feel like I'm ovulating. I haven't had a period yet since I stopped
pumping.

You ovulate first, then get your period.

Yep. This is probably one of the biggest and most common misconceptions
(sorry, bad pun) that many new first time mothers have. Then they quickly
become second time moms of kids 10-15 months apart...

But yes, ovulation causes a period, not the other way around...

Sometimes the first cycle is ovulatory and sometimes it is anovulatory. It
is more likely to be anovulatory if you are breastfeeding consistently and
your baby is under 6 months and women who are using the LAM method of birth
control can generally avoid pregnancy that way (although it isn't
foolproof). If you are not breastfeeding however anything could happen.
