Couple angry over DCF "inconvenience" decision
Couple angry over DCF "inconvenience" decision
Brandon - A Brandon couple says the embattled Florida Department of Children and Families is removing the natural brother of their three adopted children because it's too inconvenient to transport the 16-month-old foster child between their home and weekly visitation sessions in Polk County. Todd and Samantha, whose last names 10 News is withholding for the safety and privacy of their adopted children, say they hoped to adopt the boy and keep the four siblings together. They claim termination of parental rights proceedings are underway for the birth parents. The couple claims on Monday, DCF told them it was too inconvenient for them to be the child's foster parents while those proceedings continue. The child had already been with them for more than month. They say the child was removed from their home Wednesday and is now in a Polk foster home. A DCF spokeswoman says Florida law prevents her from discussing specifics in the case. Generally, Brenda Hornickle says there are several reasons why a child might be removed from a home, including the possibility that a blood relative may be interested in caring for the child. While she claims DCF routinely transports children between the two counties, Hornickle says the staff is limited in what it can do. Todd and Samantha have written to the governor, and still hope to adopt the boy. Ned Roberts, Tampa Bay's 10 News http://www.wtsp.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=6724 Defend your civil liberties!
