CORD BLOOD CAN RARELY BE USED BY..."

F. Leonard Johnson, MD of Oregon Health and Science University/OHSU says:

"...Cord blood can rarely be used by the child from whom it was
obtained...[A]t most only 0.04 percent of the cord blood units stored for
the baby's exclusive use might actually be used--and this is very likely a
gross overestimate."

BUT...

"[i]f the cord blood stem cells were banked for use by any child who needed
a stem cell transplant, the chance that those cells would be used
productively is much greater."

GASTALDO REMARKS:

Cord blood banking is a good thing but...

DON'T LET THEM IMMEDIATELY CLAMP YOUR BABY'S UMBILICAL CORD...

Before clamping, let your baby's umbilical cord stop pulsating. Make sure
your baby is pink and breathing and not in need of resuscitation. Donate
only what your baby leaves.

WARNING:It is well known that it is often difficult to obtain sufficient
cells for a transplant from an umbilical cord blood sample."

There is pressure to immediate cord clamp!

Those stem cells are intended for BABIES.

Cord stem cells may be able to repair your baby's brain if it is damaged in
the birth process. (I think this may be why retired obstetrician Malcolm
Morley, MB ChB, FACOG believes that immediate cord clamping is causing some
cases of autism and cerebral palsy.)

REMEMBER: An estimated 4.6% of "healthy" term babies suffer unexplained
brain bleeds^^^.

Immediate cord clamping robs your baby of up to 50% of the stem cells that
s/he would otherwise have transfused to her/himself.

Babies should not be robbed of blood volume or precious blood constituents.

Wait to clamp - then donate what your baby leaves.

Talk to your OB.

^^^UNEXPLAINED BRAIN BLEEDS

I believe some unexplained brain bleeds in "healthy" term babies may be
caused by the bizarre OB practice of routinely closing birth canals up to
30% and keeping birth canals closed when babies get stuck.

MD-obstetricians have been lying to cover-up their bizarre
birth-canal-closing behavior...

My thanks to Donna Young for calling my attention to the immediate cord
clamping issue - and to Kelly Moscarello for calling my attention back to it
when her little Bella developed cerebral palsy after having her cord
immediately clamped.
