Then again, I named my child after an allergy medication, so don't listen my opinions lol. I had wondered about that. So where did you get her name (which is a very nice name, by the way)? Phoebe |

Jaden Very popular in Australia. My DD's name is Jayan, and there are lots of people who call her "Jayden" because they read the name wrong. Jeremy I think of that song by "Pearl Jam" about the kid who commited suicide in his classroom. The name is okay though. Rajan (rah-JAHN) I knew a Rajan. He was a very lovely bloke. The name is pretty too. William Boring name, IMO. I know a couple of Williams, and they both go by Bill. Not sure why that is. -- ==Daye== E-mail: brendana AT labyrinth DOT net DOT au |

Wow, I bet you are going to get a ton of opinions about these. : ) Might
as well add my two cents: Derek-My mum's ex is named Derek, he was not a great guy, but I don't mind the name Evan is really nice, I think of someone from the UK when I think of that name. It is simple, and not too common. Jaden I used to like, but it seems to be overused these days. It has a nice sound, but I know so many people who have named their son Jaden. Jeremy is my youngest brother's name and was my favourite name around the time he was born. : ) I like it, but it is also quite common. Rajan is BEAUTIFUL! I love exotic sounding names and I think this would be a lovely choice. It sounds very elegant. Guess that's my first choice from your list. And finally William, not something I would choose. It is very traditional, but my leaning is for names that sound different. Now I'm off to check what other people have said. Good luck Cheryl! We sure had a great time choosing names. : ) -Alicia "Cheryl S." wrote in message ... It's been a while since I've seen a name thread, so what do you all think of these names for a boy? What sort of personality traits come to mind when you read each one? Derek Evan Jaden Jeremy Rajan (rah-JAHN) - FIL is from India, so this isn't out of place with our last name. William -- Cheryl S. Evan was on my favourites list when my grandson was born 9 months ago and also on DD and SIL's short list...Jayden was also on my list of faves but isn't now...not sure why but perhaps overpopularity since Will Smith's son...now both Jayden and Jeremy,I find just a bit too girly...agree with others that Derek brings to mind the school bully...just my 2 cents... Good luck with your decision! :-) Catherine C. grandmother to Brendan--Sept. 22, 2002 |

Derek- a jerk athlete Evan- a jerk prude Jaden- too trendy Jeremy- bible Rajan (rah-JAHN) - FIL is from India, so this isn't out of place with our last name. William- classic I'd avoid anything too trendy and contemporary with an Indian last name. |

"Cheryl S." wrote Rajan - a really nice name. I can't remember what it means off the top of my head. It's of Sanskrit origin, and means "king" (according to the book I saw it in anyway - you never know where they get this stuff). Lots of African Americans use "Rajan", "Rashawn" and other variants of the name. You run the risk of people thinking your child has a "ghetto name". You say the last name is Indian, so that may not be a problem. |

"Em" wrote Similar to a few other people, I associate Derek with a sort of not-that-nice-jockish type person. Not really sure why. Derek Jeter. But I have never heard anything to imply that he is a jerk, wonder how that part came about. |

So where did you get her name (which is a very nice name, by the way)? Phoebe I wanted a Latin or an Italian word that meant something strong and something meaningful to Jarrod and I. I also used to be a dancer, and Allegra Kent fascinated me. One of my favorite characters in a movie (Existenz) was Allegra Gellar (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Alegra basically means "Exuberantly cheerful" And that is precisely how having her made Jarrod and I feel, so it fit ;-) Plus, I like the way it rolls off the tongue.. Alegra Lee. I joke with people that ask about the medication. I say "Her brother Claritin loves the name and so does her grandfather Viagra" :-P -- LES! Daddie to Alegra Lee. May 25th 2003!
