I think we've weaned. . . .
I don't know how many people here remember me--DS just turned 3.5 this past
Friday (9/8), and he has also just gone through 15 nights without nursing (he'd dropped down to bedtime-only nursing and, more recently, roughly every other night). I think he's through with nursing. It's funny--intellectually, I knew it was coming, but on a more emotional level, it's taken me a bit by surprise--as though I just expected things to continue as they were. Since we are not planning on having more children, this is truly the end of an era. Big thanks to the members of this group who helped me with my newbie questions in those frantic early days. Your support and information really helped me establish bf. Little did I know three and a half years ago that I'd become an extended nurser. As I've mentioned in other posts, my early mindset was that bf would last a year. Then reading this group opened me up to the idea of two years and beyond, and particularly to child-led weaning. And I feel very good about having done just that. -- Belphoebe, slightly wistful, and DS, 3.5 years old |

I remember you! Congratulations on nursing so long. I've never experienced the regret on weaning that some feel, because I've either been tired of nursing (tandemming) or knowing that another baby was coming soon. I expect knowing that it's the real end of nursing will feel sad when it happens to me! Leslie |

Hi
I remember you, I have been here far too long now! I understand about the end of weaning. I have felt sad each time. My last baby weaned at 26 months, 7 months ago. I am not planning on having anymore children. I also started the whole relationship with a goal of about 6 months. Well done on your extended nursing relationship! I remember you too!
Congratulations on nursing for so long. It is bitter sweet when they wean. Now onto the rest of their lives :-) Suzanne (Who lurked much more in the past, so you probably won't remember me!!) Thanks for the kind words, Leslie, Mary, Larissa, Nikki, and Suzanne!
Occasionally I find myself expecting him to ask--and then he doesn't. I look at this little kid I've got, and I wonder what he's done with my baby! -- Belphoebe |
