Default depression in young people

Hi

I am writing an article on depression in young people and would like
to include some comments from anyone affected by or know an
adolescent/child/teenager affected by depression and/or specialists
and/or members of organisations associated with depression.

If you have any comments or interested in answering some the questions
I would love to here from you.

1 What is the age bracket for young people affected by depression in
Australia and how many?

2 Is there any recent evidence to suggest an increase in adolescent
depression during the last year?

3 Why do you think adolescents and children find it difficult to ask
for
help when they are feeling
depressed?

4 Do you think there needs to be more awareness in the community of
the
prevalence of a adolescent depression and if so how?

5 What should parents, teacher's friends and workmates look out for if
they
suspect they know someone with depression?

6 what should someone do if they suspect they know someone who may
have
depression?

7 Are the needs of adolescents with depression being met?

Although many of the answers to the above can be found on a number of
websites related to depression in young people I would like to add a
more personal aspect to the story with quotes from people affected by
or interested in depression in young people .

I look forward to reading your comments

Gemma

Gemma,

When I was a girl, long ago, we never heard of depression like we do now. It
is becoming an epidemic for a reason that goes undetected by the
pharmaceuticals and physicans that pursue the policy of prescribing
anti-depressants for every symptom including the ones that have been originated
by someone using an anti-depressant.
I write repeatedly that all stimulants in addition to their good side, have a
very disastrous side. When one person takes an anti-depressant, they
unknowingly can affect another person, friend or family, by a mind/body
connection, literally. Most commonly it can result in crohns disease, a
manmade illness simply by this contact. We are living in a time of accepting
depression almost as normal. Never hardly heard the word years ago.
My theory is on website
http://ascc.healingwell.com/info/gailfaq.htm
The true trqnquillizers that do no harm in this respect are controlled
substances creating an enormous problem, making the easily gotten
anti-depressants the drug of choice by the physicians.
This theory is really strange and almost unbelievable but years of observation
have proven it true. Anyone digging deep into the theory can be helped,
unless their depression is really of organic origin.
It affects any age bracket, there is an increase in all ages, for the simple
reason we are flooded with anti-depressants, and it is difficult to escape
knowing someone on them. There needs to be more awareness in the community,
society, Australia, US, Europe, etc etc.
Parents and workmates should first rule out the use of anti-depressants by
friends or family of affected person in an effort to at least help oneself.
The giant error in general understanding is that anti-depressants are good and
harmless (which they may be for the person using them) but the side effect of
harming another person is mostly unknown. Valium and Ativan, are controlled
as dangerous meds and thought to be addictive. Mostly false to the extent that
they are restricted. At least they do not harm to another.
I believe we have a huge problem looming that can only increase if the FDA is
not brought to bear the burden of creating so much illness, not many will
escape it.
The websites mean nothing to me, they are ignorant of the most common use of
depression that is manmade. Compounding the problem is the fact that no one
wants to give credit to such a weird theory, If they get well, that is the end
of the matter.
I believe we need a grass roots movement, righting this situation, before
depression will become a byword for almost all.

Gail Michael

Matter of fact, the theory can easily be proved by a pediatric research on IBD
children. Mostly their mothers or caretakers are on anti-depressants and if
they cease, the child is normal instantly.
How to do this study for an average person I cannot know, or I would attempt
it.
