Did Barrett fail the test? Or did he refuse to be tested? As Orac and others have told you, it was not important at the time he began practising. He completed his training and residencies and was board eligible by the standards in effect at the time. Of course, you will never stop bleating and braying about this. Indeed. I've been rebutting her on this topic for nearly three and a half years, as I showed in another post. Ilena Rose wrote: He didn't give up his medical license and remove that level of protection to the public until the early 90's. He retired from the practice of psychiatry. If one is not practicing, one does not need a license. Medical licenses are expensive to maintain and require a lot of continuing medical education (CME) credits. These credits are not usually that difficult to get if you're practicing, but if you're not they can be rather onerous to get. -- Orac |"A statement of fact cannot be insolent." | |"If you cannot listen to the answers, why do you | inconvenience me with questions?" |

From: Orac I have explained to Ilena many times why Barrett's lack of Board certification means nothing with regards to his competence Your explaining it trying to protect Barrett. It's ye ole good boy and girl club. What board certification does Dr Burzynski have, Jan? Did Barrett fail the test? Or did he refuse to be tested? Ask him. Or write to the certifying specialty board & ask them. Board certification is NOT a requirement to practice medicine, nor is it the be-all, end-all standard of a doctor's competence. It is one of many certifications MD's may obtain -- or not. Just like membership (or lack thereof) in various voluntary organizations doesn't prove anything. What other of the "many certifications MD's may obtain" is of the import of a Board Certification, Michele? You don't even understand that "board certification" isn't a single certification, do you?? As usual, I have to do your research for you -- really poor form, Ilena. A *quick* look reveals that the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology has MULTIPLE certifications available for docs who want to pursue any or all of them. Individual certifications are offered in geriatric, forensic, child & adolescent, & general psych. I & II. Some docs have one or two of these certs., while some don't. There are probably more......but hey, do a LITTLE work yourself, okay? Docs can be certified as MD's in many specialties, or not as they choose. |
