Spanking involves many forms of hitting children. Calling this ng
"alt.parenting.beating-with-a-flat-object" would limit the disciplinary hitting to beating with a flat object. One can hit children with hands, with fists, with belts, with hairbrushes, with whips, or with anything a parent can imagine. Spanking doesn't always involve a "bloodbath" but it certainly can and has. What spanking does always involve is an adult raising his/her hand, with or without an implement, and hitting a little child a fourth, a third, or half his/her size in the name of discipline. Why would anyone do that? How could anyone justify looking in the eyes of a little child and hitting the child? How could anyone ignore that fact that adults should have better strategies for behavior than little children? Are these people just stupid, Doan? Is this the only way they know to parent? Odham's Dictionary of the English Language defines "spanking" as "a beating witha flat object." So this newsgroup is alt.parenting.beating-with-a-flat-object. :-) Doan |
