Just as in Britain, more people in America are choosing to be single!

More like men are getting Smarter and staying out of the marriage trap! LOL

I would be interested to see any reliable information on the issue of
whether the knowledge of how men are treated in divorces has filtered back
to younger never-married men, and made them reluctant to run the risk of
getting married. This news story focuses on women. It fudges the issue of
whether they are unmarried because they don't WANT to marry, or because no
man has any interest in marrying them.

In the wider context, it seems to me that the breakdown of the family
has VERY serious consequences for Western countries in matters such as crime
rates and educational standards. Falling birth rates (relative to, say,
Moslems in Western countries and in Moslem countries) also are contributing
to the decline of Western countries.

It is hard to see how these trends can be reversed without making
marriage and family a more appealing proposition for men. In turn, that
will require redressing the balance of power within marriage, which--as
result of things like no-fault divorce, community property laws, and child
support--has for about 30-40 years been shifting in favor of women.

"Swung markedly" or similar, in favor of women seems more accurate than
"shifting."

Yes, the headline should have read, 51% of women have no mate.
The present headline suggest women choose to not have a mate.

Is it any wonder with the dire consequences of divorce that young people do
not want to bother taking any risk?

What role models have they seen and experienced, it can't be good with over
a 50% failure rate of all marriages?

If you were a young man and you seen what the child support system did to
your father, would planning to have children be the first thing on your
mind?

No thanks, would be the answer!!!!!!!!!

Tracing crime to the breakdown of the traditional family is a very
dangerous concept. First off, it tends to ignore other issues going on,
such as poverty and the migrant nature of our society. Not all poor
people steal and commit crime, of course, and there are plenty of
millionaires who break into that group, but you must admit that when you
have few options left, stepping outside the law sounds more and more
attractive. Also, when we talk about crime, we have to discuss a few
things. Namely, is our definition of crime today (both in statute and
in punishment) the same as in earlier times.
If there is one thing that the breakup of families I think has
contributed to, however, along with those other issues is the coldness
we show each other. Blood has some loyalties, however irrational, and
how do you get yourself that worked up over somebody who you're just
planning on sleeping with until you grow apart. And if you don't set
down roots, don't have children and go to events as a family, that
impacts your treatment of your fellow human. Think about it: would you
feel more bad about having to lay off somebody who coaches your little
league team (and therefore try to postpone it somehow), or a total stranger?
