Default chicken pox - not immune? x-posted

Poor Kami came out in spots on Wednesday, and Thursday he was covered. He
had been happy as anything, but last night was awful. He cried all night and
had a fever, the paracetamol and flannels didn't cool him. He is now fast
asleep on his daddy, and is cool.

I wasn't worried about chicken pox while pregnant, as I have had chicken pox
as a child. However I came across this site
http://www.allayurveda.com/childcare...chickenpox.htm
and was worried about this passage taken from the web page;

"Since most babies acquire antibodies against the virus from their mother
while in the womb, it's unusual for an infant to come down with this illness
during the first year. Those who do tend to have only a mild case".

Both my son Joseph, who had it bad at around six months, and now Kam has it
bad at 5 months. I also breastfeed, so could the boys both getting it so
young mean I may not be immune myself?

Since Joseph had chicken pox when you were caring for him I can't imagine
you aren't immune.

I had the chicken pox when I was a baby too, but my mother was immune to it.
Just keep him from scratching it. I some how did and have two little scar
like dent thingies on my forehead from it. It's better they get it when
they're younger then older. The older you are, the harder it gets on you.

I had chicken pox as an infant. My mother had already had them, but she did
not breastfeed us.
Not to worry you, but I actually had three cases of chicken pox. My doctor
claimed that since I was about 6 months when I first had them, my immunity
had not built up properly. When I had chicken pox in grade school the first
time was a normal case, but the second was relatively mild.

On a side note, I had a high school science teacher who claimed there was no
way you could get them more than once, since he had never heard of it
before.

Hope he feels better soon!

If you have doubts, your GP can do a simple blood test and see if you
have the antibodies.

When I was about 18 weeks pregnant, both DH and DD got the chicken
pox. My GP offered several times to check to see if I was immune. I
turned him down because I *knew* I was immune, and indeed, I didn't
catch it from either DH or DD.
