Vitamins for BF Babies is it necessary?

At 4 month visit our pediatrician told me that she would like us to start
TriViFlor because DD is exclusively breastfed, we had a different Ped when DD#2
was a nursling and she has a different opinion. I know that these vitamins are
totally vile and I hate the thought of giving them to her. No tests were done
showing that she was deficient in anything. Any opinions or experiences would
be great. Thanks

Babies do not need vitamins solely because they are exclusively breastfed.
I'd give vitamins to a baby who is demonstrably anemic (e.g., a finger prick
indicates anemia - just being over 6 months doesn't count) or whose
lifestyle or genetic background indicated a need for Vitamin D. That's about
it.

In general I dont think bf babies need any suppliments as long as YOU
are eating healthy and taking your vitamins. However, I gave my
daughter vitamins because at 10 months the only thing she would eat
was a handful of cherios in a day and I thought that by her age, she
probably needed SOMETHING other than breastmilk. And besides, vitamins
with iron can be very constipating for babies!
