On Saturday mornings, my kids have a music class. This morning, they
were learning a song called "Squirrels Lullaby". The teacher was
holding up the book, which had a picture of five squirrels in a tree,
while pointing out the baby squirrels and the mommy squirrel. She
asked the class, "Where's the daddy squirrel"?

After several kids made guesses about the whereabouts of the daddy
squirrel, suddenly, my son Derek, called out, "Two squirrels are
dead!" The teacher, apparently surprised by this comment, asked, "How
do you know two squirrels are dead?" Derek replied, "We saw them.
One was lying in our driveway, and the other one was road kill."

(There actually was a dead squirrel in our driveway the other day, and
we did see one in the middle of the road not too long ago.)
