Is the parent eligible for disability: Toddler scheduled for adenoid/tubes surgery?
Hello All,
Our twenty two month old son is scheduled to have his adenoids removed and ear tube inserted on 11/17. He is in child care since January 2005 and since than he had six ear infections and constant nose congestion due to enlarged adenoids. He's currently being treated with antibiotics (his last day on meds is Monday). The doctors (both the GP and ENT) suggested that we should keep him out of child care so he does not get sick while waiting on the surgery. Neeldes to say, both docs indicated that there is high likelihood that he'll 'catch' something in the childcare - and that 'something' will effectively prevent them to operate. My wife and me agree with this and fully recognize the importance of keeping him in the quarantine. Yet, since we are financially strapped and we both used up our sick and vacation days - therefore we'd have to take at least 4 weeks of unpaid leave (3 weeks prior and one to two weeks after surgery). Would one parent be eligible to receive some sort of disability insurance (short term) while not working? And if yes, what steps would you guys suggest us to take (i.e. should we talk to our doc/employers/state?) and what to tell to who? Thanks, Vasa Subject: Is the parent eligible for disability: Toddler scheduled for adenoid/tubes surgery? 110505Vasa |

That is a question for your human resources department where you work. The rules vary based on the laws (especially state laws) and the rules of the emoployer.
