First trip to the ER for Madison
Within the past week or so I had mentioned to a couple people I know that I was
surprised we have not had to take Madison to the ER for stiches or a broken bone, because she is such a little monkey. Well, I should have kept my big mouth shut because that's where we ended up last night. She must have been sitting backwards in a chair and the chair tipped over and hit her chin on the bottom step. Jordan is the only one who saw it happen. I was taking a bath, and dh was in the room with them but had his back to them at that moment. She had a deep gash on her chin so we immediately took her to the ER. She handled the whole situation MUCH better than I did. She only cried right after it happened. She fell asleep on the way to the ER. She woke up when we got there and was climbing all over the bed and started running all over the room while we waited for the dr. The child had a gaping wound on her chin and was running around like she always does.....(shaking head). Dh and I were telling her to SIT DOWN before she busted something else open! Our nerves were completely shot by that point. The ER dr. was absolutely wonderful with her. She fell ASLEEP while he was stitching her up! He had her face numbed and then covered her with a sterile cloth before he started sewing her up and the next thing we knew she was snoring. That's how good he was. We were at the hospital for hours and didn't get home until almost 1:30 this morning. Then Madison woke up at 6:00 this morning. I just hope it doesn't scar too badly. We are trying do everything possible to help it heal w/o a scar. Fortunately it's under her chin and not on top of it. I have to call her pediatrician to make an appt. to take the stiches out on Thurs. I'm just so thankful that dh was there to handle it. He held her hand while she got cleaned up, shot up, & stiched up and was as calm as he could be. I don't know how he does it. I was sitting there with my face covered while the dr. was working on her. There's no way in the world I could have watched w/o passing out. Jordan was so sweet last night. She kept asking if Madison was going to be all right. She also brought her some toys and books for us take to the ER for Madison, and brought her a bib so that Madison wouldn't get blood on her pajamas. Today I was wondering if Jordan would want a bandage on her chin too, but she decided she wanted one on her finger. ???? Now the trick is to keep Madison from hitting her chin in the next few days and opening it back up. She is so active! She runs everywhere, climbs on everything, and falls constantly. I was so nervous all day long. I just knew she was going to hurt herself again. I think it will take me a while to not be on edge every time she moves. Have a good weekend, Andrea twin girls-Madison & Jordan 3/22/00 |

First trip to the ER for Madison
OMG, Andrea, forgive me for laughing a little at your post! I am so sorry she
got hurt, but I couldn't believe there was actually another kid out there who could fall asleep while being stitched up! Alex did the same thing a few months ago when he split his eyelid open. It was almost naptime, and he was probably exhausted from all the crying, etc. They numbed the gash and he started snoring while the doc was working Talk about an easy patient! I know how active Madison is and how nervous you are about the chin. It is such a vulnerable part of the face to get hurt. I hope she doesn't hit it again and that it heals fine. You just never know with these kids...Bradley is our monkey-man, a total spaz who never stops, climbs everything, etc. Alex is so laid back and *he* is the one who has now had two sets of stitches. B. has had nothing (probably jinxing myself like you did, lol). Healing thoughts!! Ellen -------- Erin 6/26/95 Bradley & Alex 10/5/00 |

First trip to the ER for Madison
LOL! Thanks Ellen. I'm so sorry you've BTDT twice! I think it's harder on the
parents than the kids. If it had happened to Jordan instead then I think she would have been completely hysterical because she is such a little baby-girl.
