There are actually two answers here. :-)

A number of other posters have already commented that fresh
pumped milk which was immediately refrigerated is good up to
8 days. That is generally true but...

Some mothers produce a lot of lipase in their breastmilk, and
this enzyme breaks the milk down and causes it to taste gross.
If you have this problem, refrigerated or even frozen breastmilk
will taste bad when you use it.

If you have the lipase problem, you can deactivate it by
scaling the breastmilk before freezing it, but, of course,
that deactivates some of the active antibodies, too.

Apparently I fall into the excess lipase category... My thawed bm tastes
and smells just awful, and poor Emily is living on it! I am only pumping
about 12 ounces now, so the bulk of her diet is thawed milk...

Dear Kathy,
Me too hate to throw it out. If it's not given to my DS over 24 hours,
I'd taste it and it's not good anymore. Hiks.. You're right, it's
gold..!
