This made me laugh...
I went online to do some seaching for a double stroller at the local
stores... Just to get an idea of what is available where and price things
out before wasting a trip for nothing...
Went through basically the entire baby section just out of curiosity, if
I need that item or not, more out of boredom.
Stumbled across bottles and had to laugh out loud. I came across the
same bottles we use for DD - these Gerber bottles...
Under the product description, it says, "Gerber Comfort Hold Infant
Starter Set is a must for the Breast Feeding Mom."
Why bottles are a 'must' for someone who breast feeds is beyond me.
Maybe a 'must' for someone who expresses and bottle feeds, but for a
breast feeding mom, why on earth does she NEED these bottles?? ...or any
bottles, for that matter?

I contacted their customer services. How idiotic!

And I received back this stupid cut 'n paste e-mail:

That's the addy of where I was looking... Silly Gerber and Toys R Us...
They'll try anything!

NO kidding! LOL

Little miss is almost 5 months old, and I haven't even tried her on a
bottle yet. I haven't yet missed having her on a bottle, and it was the
same for my first two babies. My oldest didn't have a bottle until she
was 8 months old at least.

Stasya

Ronnie is 10 months, no bottle.

Gave the ones I got as gifts away.

You know - I don't know the rules governing advertising conduct in the
States, but under British regulations that could be challenged, as it's
clearly inaccurate. Would that be worth looking into?

D'oh! Apologies to Sarah! It appears I sent this via email, and not to the
whole group!
My bad I'll try again
....
No idea about anything like that in the States, but I've never heard of such
a thing here in Canada... I guess I could always email Gerber, or Toys R Us,
but would there really be any point?
I just found it odd that it is apparently a 'must have' for a breastfeeding
mom... Kinda odd since an absolute 'must have' for a breastfeeding mom, to
me, seems to be breasts, not bottles!

Hmm. Maybe that is why so many people asked me, when my daughter was a
tiny baby, if I pumped and fed bottles. It was rarely other moms who
asked me this. I guess they are getting the impression somewhere that
it is common to pump. Also I was never sure where they all thought I
should be going without the baby (not working at the time) that I would
need to pump and feed as a matter of course.

OTOH, I've had a lot of people look at me strangely when they found out I
was pumping for my preemie, since I wasn't working-both from breastfeeding
moms, who thought it was strange and sad to EP and that I was missing
something, and formula feeders who didn't understand why I'd go to all that
trouble.

I would normally assume an expressing mother to be a working mother
too...but knowing what I do about the latching issues, it makes perfect
sense. I understand exactly why you go to the trouble - but it's still an
amazing thing to do!

Hm... I finally had a reply, and it was:

Dear Kathryn :

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. We value all
your feedback, positive and negative, as it helps us to understand how our
guests feel and gives us an opportunity to evaluate any possible issues.
Hearing from you has helped us to do just that. Your comments are important
to us, and we have forwarded them to our Corporate Office where they will be
reviewed. Again, we appreciate your feedback, and look forward to serving
you again in the future!

Sincerely, Toys "R" Us Guest Relations Team

I kinda feel special... Your concerns are going to be taken "into
consideration" and mine weren't, but it was forwarded to the Corporate
Office to be reviewed? Oh yay. (sarcasm)

Good on you for pumping for your preemie!

My sister had preemie twins and she hired an electric dual pump so she could
feed them. She said it looked and felt like being a cow attached to a
milking machine. But she kept at it for the whole time they were both in
hospital (over a month, can't quite remember how long it actually was) as
well as when one came home and she was still visiting the other one. Twin1
ended up breast feeding while she had to express for Twin2. Due to the fact
that twin2 had had so many tubes in her mouth to keep her alive she refused
to let anything into her mouth so it was easier to get her to take a bottle,
but my sister still gave her breast milk rather than formula.

How could people think you were "missing out on something"? You were keeping
this baby alive by providing it with the best nutrition source in the world.
Don't they say that when you save someone's life you are bonded for life?
