Default BF questions

Hello all,

New to the place so forgive me for not knowing all the terms and
acronyms. Our son was born a tad early (8 days) via C-Section due to
some complications. His birth weight was around 5lbs 15.9 ounces. Due
to jaundice the doctors were concerned about him eating enough and
pooping to help clear the jaundice. Seems the jaundice is clearing and
he is eating fine.

Now to the problem aspects of BF. My wife is trying to BF our son, but
I think he may be nipple confused. At the hospital they fed him via
syringe. At home, without knowing any better we fed him with a bottle
since my wife barely had any milk production. My wife has been pumping
since 3/5/04 when our son was born. Her milk levels are still low
though. In the mornings she can pump about 3-4 ounces. The evenings it
is only 1-2 ounces. She is not doing it as regularly as she should.
That is one issue, low milk levels.

The other is our son is not latching on properly and gets quite
frustrated when put on the breast. We've tried putting him on when he
is getting ready to wake for feeding, but he still struggles. Even with
the SNS he will nurse for a bit and then doze off. When fully awake he
fusses quite a bit over breast feeding.

My wife is quite frustrated any suggestions would be appreciated.
We do have an appointment with the LC tomorrow. We went today but our
son was asleep and could not be woken for anything.

That is another thing, he is quite the sleepy kid. Which is good at
times. But when does it become excessive or become cause for concern?
Like now my wife is trying to wake him for his regular feeding but he
won't wake up. Even after a diaper change he is still in dream land.

Thanks for your advice.
