They are siblings, not boyfriend and girlfriend. Why would they "have
to be split up"? I really don't get it.

My 3yo boy/girl twins generally sleep in separate rooms now, but we do
hope to have them back in the same room in the future. (Not really due
to lack of space, just because we think it would be more comfortable for
everyone.) It never would have occurred to me that whether they are in
the same room or different rooms has anything to do with their gender.

Meg --

Congratulations!

We have b/g twins who are 6, and still happily share a room. The b/g
twins down the road shared a room until they were 10, if I recall
correctly. We have no other children.

As someone else wrote, in the long run, you just do what works for you.

Hello!

We will be welcoming our twins to our family in February (knock wood).
We have an almost 2 year old daughter too. I'm wondering how long
you kept your boy/girl twins sharing the same room? I'm thinking two
years from when they are born, my older daughter will move into the
larger room with her little sister. Am I dreaming, or does this sound
reasonable?

Any other advice about boy/girl twins would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Mine are just about to turn two and I have no plans to separate them. I
figure they'll let me know.

Ours will be 2 on Jan. 3. We feel the same.

OK, well for all of those out there that may have the space, you could split
them up when they want their own space. On the other hand, our 8.5 year old
twins love the bunk beds and one room. Both have their own space in the
finished basement for entertainment and desks but for sleeping they prefer
each others company. It sure makes bedtime easy for me as I read one book
(alternate from each others pile as we finish). They don't goof around and
lights are off at 9, reading between 8:30 and 8:45 for with prayers and they
read from 8:45 to 9. It works for us. Neither has complained about the
sleeping arrangements yet - I know they will and when they do we will have
to work something out but for now it's great.

Why would you split up the twins and put one with the older child? I
would think your older daughter will be more interested in having her
own space, and if you have two bedrooms, it would be better to keep the
twins together, at least in principle.

I am probably going to keep my b/g twins in the same room until at least
kindergarten and if they like being together, maybe even a little
longer. I see nothing wrong with it when they are still young and naive.
