Default Xray in early pregnancy

I just found out I am pregnant. I am scheduled to have xrays of my mouth at
the dentist. Will this harm the baby?

I wouldn't do scheduled x-rays, but a necessary x-ray of an area where the
rays don't get to the baby is fine, if it is close, they should shield your
abdomen with a lead blanket.

I've always heard that it was fine but if it's just routine x-rays, I'd
say don't do it. If there's a specific dental problem that you're
investigating, then I may do it - depending on how necessary the x-ray
is to the diagnosis. Pregnant or not, I try to avoid any unnecessary
exposure to anything that didn't exist 100 years ago.

Tell the dentist. Most will not want to do any x-rays
while you're pregnant, unless there's a significant need to do
so.

Best wishes,

You will need to speak to your dentist but the hospital would not x ray me

when I really badly hurt my finger which is still damaged. I think they go
on a basis of how badly you need the x ray. X ray can cause harm though so
think about it!!!!

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I told my dentist, and she
decided to postpone the x-rays. (It wasn't urgent, they just would've
helped with a tricky bit of work she was doing.) Call your dentist.

They will ask you if you are pregnant before doing the X-ray, and usually
will not do them at that time, if the answer is yes. If they don't ask,
tell them. My guess is that they will reschedule them for after the
pregnancy.
