Desc?
Hello, I have just had a midwife visit and hse says my baby's head feels
really low and has written 3/5 in the column in my notes headed "desc". Does this mean descent? And does that mean the baby is beginning to engage? I am confused because this is my second pregnancy and I was under the impression that baby wouldn't engage until I was in labor this time. I am 36 weeks today. Thanks Judy |

I am 36 weeks today. Thanks Judy Hi Judy, I have had 5 babies, and with babies 1-4 they all fully engaged (0/5ths) by around 8 months. The only reason my last baby boy didn't was because he was posterior (back to back), and we only got to 3/5ths. I always got exited when I was told my baby was fully engaged, even my Doc was sure I would have the baby anyday, but the baby always hung in there around 6-8 weeks after engaging. (mine engage early - a little keen). What you say about baby not engaging until labour is kinda true, moms who have laboured before are supposed to have stretched insides, so the baby can pop in and out! So at one appointment you could be 3/5ths, then at another 5/5ths! Thats how my last baby ended up posterior, but it just made labor longer that's all. -- Andrea mom of 5 - latest addition Kamron David age 14 weeks - 16lbs 5 (7lbs 9 and a half born). |

That's reasuuring! despite being huge and tired I am not ready for a baby just yet. DS has been sick and the house looks like a bomb has hit it. I need one more week at least! I had a 10lb 8oz baby first time and this one is also big (measures 40 weeks) so I imagine theres nowhere to go for that head other than into my pelvis :-) Thanks Judy |
