Default 12-year-old English girl runs off with 31-year-old U.S. Marine

Too bad the *******'s not in the Marines anymore. I was hoping he was
still with the Marines so that when he gets caught, he'll be
court-martialed and put in prison for life.

I think all these teen girls and pre-teen girls lying about their age
on the internet to meet older men will end up resulting in new laws
requiring internet filters on all computers (even in homes), an annual
computer license fee (similar to the TV license in the UK), and
probably a scanner (to scan your driver's license or state-issued ID)
on all computers (that will probably be the only way to keep kids out
of adult chatrooms and adults out of kid/teen chatrooms because the
parents obviously don't want to monitor their kid's internet
habits)...the scanners could also be used to allow adults to visit
x-rated websites and keep kids away from x-rated websites.

Runaway Shevaun 'claimed to be 19'
DAN MCDOUGALL CRIME CORRESPONDENT

SHEVAUN Pennington's parents had heeded the warnings and monitored
their daughter's use of the internet very carefully. The family
computer was kept in the kitchen, they talked to Shevaun about her use
of chat-rooms and advised her not to give her real name when talking
online.

The 12-year-old spent hours online, but Stephen and Joanna Pennington
were not unduly worried.

"We genuinely thought she was speaking to people her own age," said
her mother, after it emerged that Shevaun had run away with a United
States marine, aged 31, who she had met through the internet.

"This is the last thing we thought would happen."

Mrs Pennington said she had spoken to her daughter recently about the
dangers of the net.

She added: "We take a real interest in everything our daughter does,
and we had a long talk with her about her internet use and told her
never to use her real name and address when she goes online."

But last night it appeared that Shevaun had said she was 19 in her
internet correspondence with Toby Studabaker - and that the pair had
planned a meeting at Manchester Airport well in advance.

I thought the only way to get to Manchester was to
fly to London, and then either drive, or take a train or bus
to Manchester. When I covered the Commonwealth Games last year,
for my E-zine, I flew to London, and then drove to Manchester,
becuase I thought that was the only way to go. I did not know
you could fly to Manchester.

You don't suppose its a coincidence, do you? He'd only been out 2 or
3 weeks when this happened.

I guess he waited because he knew if he did that **** while he was
still a Marine, he would've been court-martialed for going AWOL and
transporting a minor across international lines. However, he is not
the only one to blame. I also partially blame the girl for lying about
her age, and I also partially blame her parents for "not doing their
job".

That being said, if this bull**** keeps up, we're gonna end up seeing
a nanny state where you'll have to pay a fee every year for the right
to own a computer (the "nanny state" will say "having a computer is a
right, not a privilege, and that right must be earned by paying the
annual FCC Internet/Computer License fee"), as well as being forced to
install "smut filters" on all computers (including all home
computers), and disabling or uninstalling your "smut filter" would be
treated as a federal offense.

I hate to say it, but with all the bull**** going on (especially the
war against Big Food), we'll probably have a full-fledged nanny state
within the next 5-10 years, and with the "war on obesity", the nanny
state will probably decide that TV contributes to obesity, therefore
"owning/watching a TV is a right, not a privilege, and that right must
be earned by paying the annual FCC Television License fee".

You're confusing "rights" with "privileges". Driving a car is supposedly a
privilege, speaking your mind (guaranteed by the Constitution) is a right.
Aside from that, I hope for the opposite effect. Americans will get so tired
of being told how to live our lives, we will move toward a dismantling of the
"nanny state" and we will see an increase in freedom. Many of our
present privileges will then be elevated to rights.
Though I'm sure John Ashcroft is already working on a way to put smut filters
on all our computers.
