This might be a repeat question but...
I am trying to sterilize some bottles to put breastmilk in, and also
sterilize the breastpump so I can give my cousin some of my milk. Anyway, after I boil them there is a white film on the bottles, etc. Is this OK? How can I not have the stuff on the bottles? Sorry if I sound stupid, first time I've done this:-) Kat Mama to Maggie 11/03/01 and Will 02/10/04 |

This is the first time I have sterilized them, fresh out of the packaging.
Would the salt work for it still? Kat mama to Maggie 11/03/01 and Will 02/10/04 "Nic H" wrote in message ... Sounds like it could be milk "fat," salt works wonders... Sorry if I sound stupid, first time I've done this:-) This happened to my bottles when I sterilized them at my Mom's house. She lives in southern Arizona and their water is full of minerals (I guess, its undrinkable- They reverse-osmosis purify their drinking water). Might be that. I was doing the pump and bottles for my sister - I think she just used them as they were, so I don't have a solution for you. FWIW, it never happened when I sterilized my stuff in Atlanta. Mary |

This might be a repeat question but...
If you use tap water, then I would think the white stuff is either
calcium deposit or maybe lime (or some mineral substance in the water). I would think that it does look ugly, but it does not hurt. If you have doubts, maybe you can just sterilize the bottles in distilled water (though I would think it is really unnecessary). oh yeah, as for cleaning the white film from the bottles, well you can
use a descaler (or so I think it is called). You know? The stuff that you clean coffee makers etc with. Sorry if I sound stupid, first time I've done this:-) It's probably minerals like calcium that settle on it. Put a teaspoon of lemon juice in the water and you'll get rid of it easily. Not that it can do any harm.. -- -- I mommy to DS (22m) mommy to two tiny angels (28 Oct 2003 & 17 Feb 2004) guardian of DH (33) |

I don't like the stuff 'cause it makes the bottles look dirty and I am giving the breastmilk to my cousin. I don't want to gross her out:-) Kat mama to Maggie 11/03/01 and Will 02/10/04 |
