Assist with child cabinet locks

I'm installing cabinet locks and it seems that when im screwing in, the
wood is splitting. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anyway around
it?

What kind of screws are you using? Use small wood screws.
You can also try pre-drilling holes. Use a drill bit that is slightly
smaller than the size of screw you need to put in, then drill the screws in
the pre-drilled holes.

We usually tapped the sharp point in a tad before starting to screw,
and you should probably not try a flat-end screw. lol. Anyway, I wonder
if the tape trick would work for ya. I saw a thing on TV where they
said to put tape on the opposite side of a piece of wood you were
drilling through so that the wood would not splinter, but I suppose you
could try it on the side you were screwing it into too.
