2 Network TV shows Sunday dissed CPS
The first on ABC, featured a family who were impoverished by CPS, DCFS probably
in California because their child was taken away on the old saw ( intentional pun) of brittle bones disease. Also known as osteogenesis imperfecta. The family (eminently middle-class and loving, BTW) used up all their savings fighting stupid court orders. FWD: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Sunday, November 28, 8/7c "Burns Family" ABC The design team adapts the Burns Family home in Garden Grove, California to accommodate a six-year-old with "glass bones." Gerald and Ellen Burns get a makeover after spending most of their savings fighting a court order that separated them from their son, who has osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder that causes bones to break easily. Producer(s): Tom Forman. Original Airdate: November 28, 2004. 8 o'clock/ 7 o'clock Central on ABC TV Obviously, this was another false allegation that nearly destroyed this family. There are thousands of them. Even when the falsely accused PROVE their innocence, they do not recover the court costs, which can run $50,000 to $100,000. UPDATE- Here's the story- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition WTNH.com "Burns Family" - On "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," airing Sunday, November 28 (8:00-9:00 PM), the design team adapts the Burns Family home in Garden Grove, California to accommodate a six-year-old with "glass bones." When Benjamin Burns was born in 1997, he was an apparently healthy baby boy. Six months later, Benjamin's sister was playing with her baby brother and, when he started to fall, she reached out to help him. But when she grabbed his arm, she unknowingly fractured it. In the weeks that followed, routine tasks performed by Benjamin's parents resulted in more visits to the hospital and led to the discovery that his arm had been re-injured and he had a fractured skull. Eventually, Child Protective Services was called and Benjamin was separated for three months from his parents, who were accused of child abuse. Nothing could have been further from the truth, and loving parents Gerald and Ellen Burns spent every resource they had trying to get their son back and prove their innocence. When it was finally diagnosed that Benjamin suffers from Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a genetic disorder characterized by bones that break easily, the Burns were cleared (?) of the abuse charges and allowed to bring their son home. Which is really uncommon. ************ The second network offering by CBS featured a sister, too poor to foster her younger brother, who was left to be predated upon in a GROUP HOME. Peter Falk starred as a angel. Would that many children languishing in GROUP HOMES were able to access an angel. Sources: http://www.familyrightsassociation.com |
