Vaccinating a toddler who's sick with a cold
"Richard" wrote in message ... Julie wrote: : [ . . . ] : I hadn't planned for him to receive the MMR shot on Friday anyway (I'm : hoping to find some place in Canada or the Eastern U.S. where he can get the : measles, mumps and rubella vaccines administered individually when he is at : least 18 mos. old, maybe older) but isn't it common practice to avoid giving : a child vaccinations when he's sick and his immune system is already : compromised? (1) I've read (I'll try to find the citation and post it here) that vaccines are less effective if a child's immune system is "already busy" fighting something else. I'm sure there are others with more expertise who can address this issue. Our immune systems are always busy fighting infections. Our intestines are full of bacteria and the immune system has to keep them at bay. People get cuts and scrapes all the time. And the skin is crawling with bacteria. The immune system is always busy. (2) We are going to be giving our daughter separate M, M, and R vaccines. They're available from Merck, but only in orders of ten doses. We're looking for nine other parents to share an order. We're near NYC. Why? What evidence do you have that this will be beneficial to your daughter compared to the regular vaccine? Jeff Richard Micaela's dad |

Vaccinating a toddler who's sick with a cold

There is no reason to avoid giving him the shots. While he may not be in the best of moods, the vaccine will be as effective as when your son doesn't have a cold and will pose no special risk to him. Listen to this pharma shill at your peril, he is a walking talking vaccine bull**** leaflet http://www.whale.to/a/webmaster.html |

Listen to this pharma shill at your peril, he is a walking talking vaccine bull**** leaflet http://www.whale.to/a/webmaster.html The whale site is the laughing stock of the web. It's author (who doesn't reveal himself -- I can't blame him) clearly has not clue about medicine, vaccines or science. For example, one the first 3 points on the page: 1) Vaccine preventable diseases are in decline because the vaccine work. Polio has been eliminated from the US and smallpox from the world. Hib meningitis is almost never seen any more. The whaleto site claims that the cause of small pox is poor sanitation and poverty. Well, about 1/2 of all people don't have sanitation and there are more people in poverty than ever before. 2) The whale claims that disease dangers have been exaggerated. To me a dead child is a dead child, even if he died from what the whale says is a benign disease, like chicken pox. 3) Vaccines are not 100% safe. However, they are far safer than the diseases they prevent. Regrettably, I don't have the stomach to go any farther. Jeff |

I can't afford that journal. http://content.nejm.org/content/vol350/issue1/ Check out the bottom of the left column. We said "true, true, and unrelated" a lot in residency. (Sort of the opposite of Occham's razor?) I suppose the title of this article is a play on that. PF |
