Hi all,

My PPD has been getting very bad for me - for all of us. My d/h has been
taking care of the kids, taking them to school dressing them. I haven't been
functioning.
Last time I went to my doc for anti-depressants I was told I could have them
as long as I was happy putting Kami at risk of respiratory distress! I went
on with life without meds struggling.
Today I saw a different doc and asked for meds. The doc gave me a lecture
about how I have managed this long without meds. I told him my life had
ground to a halt. I don't go anywhere, I'm not there for my kids. They keep
asking for me, 'why don't you take us to school mommy?'
I then told him how this wasn't a rash decision, and how guilty the thought
of meds while breastfeeding had made me feel. He asked me to give up
breastfeeding!! I told him that would be terrible for me and Kamron. Our
nursing relationship keeps me going.

I then pulled out a printed article shown here;

http://www.kellymom.com/meds/antidep...hale10-02.html

about the safety of meds when nursing.

I asked for Sertraline (Zoloft), and after a huge debate he caved in. He
gave me a months supply and they are 50mg tabs.

I feel so proud! Yippee!

That's great Andrea, remember they do take a while to kick in. Thankfully
my GP and psychiatrist are great when considering meds and nursing, so I'm
also taking Sertraline. It's definitely improved things, but it's possible
I still have an underlying mood disorder, my next appoinment is 5 weeks
time, so we'll see what happens then.

Aw good luck Anne!

I have suspected obsessive compulsive disorder, just the same as my dad has.
I have got to return in 1 month as thats the supply I have been given. I am
not sure about the milk production thing! Kami will be happy lol.

Great job taking care of yourself and Kami, Andrea! It's a shame that so
often we need to do our doctors' research for them, but there it is. I hope
you'll be feeling much better soon.

Jesus, Andrea, how do you manage to have so many crappy doctors?

Good for you for insisting. One month isn't very long, however. My
doctor told me most women take Zoloft for at least six months for PPD.

but it is usual to only give a month (or less) supply at a time for a new
drug

I am SO sorry you have to go through so much !@#$ to get what you need
but I'm also thrilled that you stood up for yourself and got it.

i started lexapro last week. My psychiatrist said that the benefit of
having a functioning mother and continuing nursing far outweighs the
minute risks of the small amount of active metabolite Ben may ingest.

((hugs))

I had to do something. Taking the first pill was the hardest thing, but I'm
glad I did.
I am only on 50mg per day, so I doubt any will get into the milk.

I have suffered for years and just couldn't take anymore.
