Default Long and very light period

I came off the Pill in August and we have been trying to start a family
since. My periods were fairly regular - as in every 14 days, lasted about 4
days and were fairly heavy. I suffered from PMS, had cramps and my nipples
were very very sensitive. These symptoms were normal to how I was before I
went on the pill.

However, this time I have gone 26 days before I started what I think is my
period, it has lasted 10 days so far and has been very very light, I have
even had some days where there wasn't any blood. Also, I had no warning of
my period and no pain, my breasts are very tender and feel very heavy but my
nipples are perfectly normal, not sensitive like they normally are. I have
never had a period that lasted 10 days, or was this light or painfree. I
have also never had my breasts feel tender and heavy - I am wearing a bra
under my pyjamas! I am also very emotional, and keep crying at silly
things!

I thought my period had stopped so did an ovulation test this morning to try
to detect my optimum time for conceiving. It clearly showed that I was
having my hormone surge at the moment, but I'm not sure how I can be as I am
still lightly bleeding.

To be honest, I am very confused by all this and not at all sure what it
means. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Maggie

You should take a home pregnancy test. It's possible that what you had was
implantation spotting. Good luck - I hope everything works out for you.

That was my thought - take a pregnancy test.

Good luck

My last period, which I had just less than 4 weeks before testing positive
on HPT, was short and very light. It was only a day and a half long, was
very light and I had no cramping or other such usual things. A couple weeks
later I went to the OB and was dated at exactly 5 weeks, 5 days along.

Thanks for all the advice (it's the first time I've done this sort of
thing!). I did a pregnancy test and it was positive. No, hold that
congratulations! About an hour later I had really bad period cramps but no
blood. I telephoned NHS Direct (a 24 hour phone advice line run by our
health service in the UK) and I then went to A and E (Accident and
Emergency). They did 2 tests and both were negative. So I'm back to square
one. I still have a very very light amount of blood and my breasts are
still feeling very swollen and heavy. So I have no idea what is going on!!!
I am guessing that I am not pregnant (unfortunately) so it's back to trying!
Thanks again for all the help, and even though I'm not pregnant I still
enjoy reading all the messages on here - hopefully it will prepare me well
for the lucky day that I am expecting.

If you are very early pregnant a home wee stick test would be more accurate
than the hospital's.

You can only wait and see, but the long drawn out spotting sounds a lot like
implantation.
I got a lot of early cramps whne pg too.

You could ask for a blood test.
Only a quantitative hcg would tell you for sure, if those hormones are
rising or falling.

Thanks again for the advice. Well 48 hours later and it's changed again! I
am still bleeding very slightly but completely pain free. I felt sick late
last night, and again tonight. My breasts seem to be getting bigger (and I'm
not exactly small in weight!). So I decided to do another test tonight, and
it very clearly showed positive. After 2 positive tests does this mean I am
pregnant, or should I beleive the hospital ones that were negative? I had
no idea it would all be this confusing!

Maggie did they do urine or blood tests? If they did urine at the
hospital, I strongly encourage you to go back and get them to do some
blood work. Do you chart your cycles? If so are your temps still up? I
ask because this could be an ectopic pregnancy. Some of the symptoms
are intermittent bleeding (can be heavy to light), usual pregnancy
symptoms like sore boobs etc.. You may also get pregnancy (urine)
tests that are sometimes postitive sometimes negative. Other sympmtoms
are nausea, vomiting, pain in your upper back...there are lots and no
two cases present the same. Ectopics don't necessarily come with
debilitating pain.

I could be totally off base but it should be something they look at
just in case. Ususally if you get a home pregnancy test something at
some point was growing somewhere in there! False positives are very
rare.

Is this right? You get your period every two weeks?
