Default Unvaccinated children -- virtually no asthma

Salzburger Elternstudie (Survey of / by parents) (2001-2005) Results:
Unvaccinated children -- virtually no asthma; vaccinated 1 in 10; and three
to five times less
Neurodermatis....http://www.impf-portal.de/aktuell/fr...fraboaus10.doc

Englische Kohortenstudie (1988 - 1999) Results: Vaccinated children are up
to 14 times more likely to have asthma than the unvaccinated and up to nine
times more like to have skin problems.

Langzeitstudie in Guinea-Bissau

Results
The death rate for unvaccinated children is about half that of the
vaccinated. [Ungeimpfte Kinder haben im Vergleich mit geimpften Kindern ein
um die Hälfte geringeres Sterberisiko]
http://www.ratio2000.de/gesundheit/news/news0104.htm

Schwedische Studie an Waldorfschulen

Results
Unvaccinated kids have a lower risk of allergies...[Ungeimpfte Kinder haben
im Vergleich zu geimpften Kindern ein geringeres Allergierisiko].
http://www.waldorflibrary.org/journa...les/rb5103.pdf

WHO-Feldversuch (field trials) in Indien (1968 - 1971)
Results
Unvaccinated kids are much less likely to get sick. On the basis of this
study, stopped recommending the tuberculosis vaccination.

Unvaccinated kids are five times less likely to have asthma than the
vaccinated, 2.5 times less likely to have skin problems and 8 times less
likely to be hyperactive. http://www.ias.org.nz/prelim_survey_results.htm

All this in the April issue of the "All-about-Vaccination Newsletter by
Parents for Parents." The March issue
http://www.impf-report.de/erschienen.php contains the detailed vaccination
report.

In conclusion, a question to Karaka re her post "What causes autism...?" If
the Japanese have their share of autism though the MMRs have been
discontinued, can it be that Japanese kids get their mercury from sources
other than thimerosol-laced vaccine? From mercury-laced fish, for instance?
After all, the Japanese eat much fish. Remember minamata....

The MMR vaccine NEVER contained mercury.

A "study" done by anti-vaccination campaigner, Petra Cortie, for a
group of anti-vaccination parents using self selected subjects
recruited from anti-vaccination groups!

Actually what the authors said in their conclusion was :-

"RESULTS: We found an association between vaccination and the
development of allergic disease; however, this association was present
only among children with the fewest physician visits and can be
explained by this factor.
CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that currently recommended routine
vaccinations are not a risk factor for asthma or eczema."

"Is early BCG vaccination associated with less atopic disease?"
An epidemiological study in German preschool children with different
ethnic backgrounds
Author(s)
GRÜBER Christoph ; MEINLSCHMIDT Gerhard ; BERGMANN Renate ; WAHN
Ulrich ; STARK Klaus;

"This study demonstrated a weak protective effect of BCG vaccination
against asthma but a much stronger protective effect of non-German
ethnicity against atopic manifestations among preschool children from
Germany."

Routine vaccinations and child survival: follow up study in
Guinea-Bissau, West Africa.
Ines Kristensen, physician, Peter Aaby, anthropologist,Henrik Jensen,
statistician.

"Results: Mortality was lower in the group vaccinated with any vaccine
compared with those not vaccinated, the mortality ratio being 0.74
(95% confidence interval 0.53 to 1.03). After cluster, age, and other
vaccines were adjusted for, BCG was associated with significantly
lower mortality (0.55 (0.36 to 0.85)). However, recipients of one dose
of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis or polio vaccines had higher
mortality than children who had received none of these vaccines (1.84
(1.10 to 3.10) for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis). Recipients of
measles vaccine had a mortality ratio of 0.48 (0.27 to 0.87). When
deaths from measles were excluded from the analysis the mortality
ratio was 0.51 (0.28 to 0.95). Estimates were unchanged by controls
for background factors.
Conclusions: These trends are unlikely to be explained exclusively by
selection biases since different vaccines were associated with
opposite tendencies. Measles and BCG vaccines may have beneficial
effects in addition to protection against measles and tuberculosis. "

"...Our observations emphasise the importance of immunisations in
developing countries; vaccinated children had much lower mortality."

A subsequent study:-
"Survival bias in observational studies of the impact of routine
immunizations on childhood survival."
Jensen H, Benn CS, Lisse IM, Rodrigues A, Andersen PK, Aaby P.
concluded that :-
"...we re-analysed data from Guinea-Bissau using the retrospective
updating approach. RESULTS: In simulations, the retrospective updating
approach produced rate ratio (vaccinated/unvaccinated) estimates
biased towards zero because of a differential misclassification which
created survival bias as risk-free observation time was allocated to
the vaccinated group. The landmark approach produced rate ratio
estimates biased towards one. Biases increased with interval between
data collection visits and incidence of vaccination, but were
unaffected by the underlying mortality level. Survival bias increased
with the proportion of dead children whose vaccination status could
not be updated. The re-analysis of data from Guinea-Bissau changed the
estimated impact of DTP from an 84% higher mortality using the
landmark approach to a 37% lower mortality using the retrospective
updating approach."

Not quite, the study did not compare vaccinated and unvaccinated
children but those in private Waldorf/Steiner schools with those in
state schools.

WHO-Feldversuch (field trials) in Indien (1968 - 1971)
Results
Unvaccinated kids are much less likely to get sick. On the basis of this

I presume this refers to the Chingelput Trial?

The conclusion was :-

"It is likely therefore that BCG may offer protection
against childhood forms of tuberculosis. It is prudent in view of the
seriousness of tuberculosis in childhood that the practice of
vaccination of infants may not be discontinued. "

Current WHO advice is :-
"Based on WHO recommendations, the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
vaccine is used once at birth in most developing countries to reduce
the severe consequences of tuberculosis in infants and children."

"In August 1995, the WHO issued a statement on BCG vaccination with
the following recommendations
1 In countries where the prevalence and incidence of tuberculosis are
high, BCG vaccination should be given to infants as soon after birth
as possible, and in any case, within the first year of life....repeat
vaccination is not recommended, as scientific evidence does not
support this practice."

Routine BCG vaccination in low risk countries is no longer necessary
and the "Withdrawn" statement misattributed above actually refers to a
German (not Indian, and not recommended in the report) decision some
years later not to recommend routine infant BCG vaccination. The
Germans have been one of the leaders in developing a more effective
vaccine than BCG however and a genetically modified variant of BCG,
VPM1002, started trials a month or so ago.

Might some ant-vaccination campaigner have got their knickers in a
twist and misread something perhaps?

404. This appears to be part of Corties self selecting survey
"results". The IAS is the "Immunization Awareness Society" of New
Zealand, an anti-vaccination campaign group.

All this in the April issue of the "All-about-Vaccination Newsletter by
Parents for Parents." The March issue
http://www.impf-report.de/erschienen.php contains the detailed vaccination
report.

April 2005 to be precise, reporting, on an anti-vaccination group
website a meeting of anti-vaccination campaigners held in Stuttgart.
