items to cover in parenting plan?

And even if that's the case, it seems like an invitation for headaches; your medical providers are not going to want to have to be dealing with going back and forth between two different insurers for your accounts, and insurance companies are notorious for trying to get out of paying anything at all when there's a coinsurance situation. Why not just have one party carry the insurance and the other party reimburse for half the increase in premiums, if any? I already pay for her coverage ... but adding her to his won't cost them any money. It just seems like a no-brainer given that. But you might be right if there are going to be headaches with dual-coverage. From my perspective, it's either add her to his or he reimburses for half of the difference between coverage for my emp+child(ren) and just employee. It seems (and I know) there is so much that should be covered, but I am at a loss in coming up with a list that feels anywhere near complete. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!! Paula You will want to address how to split the income tax dependency. Bear in mind that medical expenses (item 2 above) cannot be deducted on your return or legally reimbursed from a cafeteria plan without tax consequences if the child is not your dependent on your federal return. I currently have sole legal and physical custody ... hopefully we can talk about moving to joint either in the about-to-occur discussions or relatively soon after. Without him/them stepping up and being more actively involved parents, I don't know that I'm willing to share the tax deduction ... I'm open to ideas, though, so I'll have to see how things go. If there is duplicate insurance, the party whose birthday comes first in the calendar year is the #1 insurance. Good to know as his is first. Thanks! Ours is a bit of an un-orthodox situation. I'm open to steps being involved and don't see where the harm is in including all the adults .... and I will expect that my own SO/spouse will be included in decisions that affect him if/when he enters the picture, so I cannot in good conscience shut her out ... and don't want to. In fact, she reached out to me to begin the current dialog, and I think she'll be a necessary part of the equation for he and I to get some good communication channels open again.
