Baby growth charts to be revised

Yes, you are right, I guess... "Michelle J. Haines" wrote in message ... CY wrote: I don't get it why they are changing them DOWN though. All the babies I know (all either breast or combi-fed) are at the top of (or in our case *off*) the charts. Shows you the danger of anecdotal evidence. All of my breastfed babies are tiny, except Sasha who has managed to be 50% for weight. My middle child has spent a bunch of time off the bottom of the charts. Michelle Flutist At 11 months my son is about 18 pounds... never had a taste of formula, and went from 50th percentile at birth to 3rd since about 5 months of age or so. "Mary W." wrote in message So they end up being tall and skinny. That was my experience exactly. I wouldn't worry one bit about a chubby baby if they are chubby from breastmilk. -- Nikki, mama to Hunter 4/99 Luke 4/01 Brock 4/06 Ben 4/06 |

Baby growth charts to be revised
Rocky was 17 lbs. at 2 months, 22 lbs. at 4 months,
and 27 lbs. at six months... He's now 11 months and hasn't gained any weight in 5 months, so he's plummeted down to the 95%-tile line. Never had formula. I guess he got "unhealthy" by 6 months, for being over the 1-year healthy weight, eh? -- Anita -- |

Baby growth charts to be revised
"tlc517" wrote in message oups.com... Hi, I'm sort of new here. my son is 4 months old and only breastfed. He weighed 6.5oz at birth and now.....he is 19 pounds. He is almost in 9mth old clothes, but his Dr.(who is GREAT1!!) says that he is meeting all of his developmental goals and is healthy. We were a little worried at first because he was 13pounds at his 2mth visit. I feel like I should be worried about something, but he should burn it off when he starts being more active..........Right? if they say the over 22 lb 1 year old is unhealthy...wonder what they would say about mine. Heh... mine has received a few comments, so far mostly positive, about my 7 month old. He's over 23 pounds. He's only breastfed at this point. We haven't even tried any solids yet. I believe at this rate, he's going to be 30 pounds at a year. Granted, he does have lessened movement in his lower limbs and he doesn't waste any energy crying. I admit I do worry sometimes because he's so much larger than my other ones were at this age, but I know he's breastfed and really, it's the way he's supposed to be at this point. I'm just worried mostly because I don't know how much longer I can carry him around at this rate! LOL I think a good doctor looks at the chart as only part of the whole. There's the chart, there's the child's curve on that chart, there's the parent factor, and the child's diet. I think if the doctor is just looking at the chart and saying a baby is unhealthy according to the chart, they're not a very good doctor. Charts don't tell the whole story, and a good doctor knows that. -- Joy Rose 1-99 Iris 2-01 Spencer 3-03 Grant 9-05 www.caringbridge.org/visit/grantphilip |

Grant is similar and seems so huge to me because my other kids were all under or around the 50th percentile at his age. Grant at seven months is over 23 pounds (no solids yet and refuses a bottle of any sort), and he's not slowing down in the growing department that I can see yet. He's not very active yet, but I think when he is he'll slow down a bit in the weight gain area. How did you haul Rocky around?! My back and arms are having a hard time keeping up!! So far, I haven't been slinging because Grant has hip dysplasia, and his hips click and pop out. I'm thinking of getting a back carrier, but right now I'm building muscle, I guess! (I'm sure you know all about this already.) How did you haul Rocky around?! My back and arms are having a hard time keeping up!! I have never been as strong as I am now! Want a bag of rice from the store? Who needs a cart? The scariest is when I hold Rocky with my right arm and pull Pillbug up the 20-step staircase to therapy and Rocky lunges out at something... -- Anita -- |
