RAIN MAN ON YOUR MIND? HELPGUIDE LAUNCHES A "HOW TO" GUIDE IN
RECOGNIZING AND DEALING WITH AUTISM IN YOUR KIDS.

JULY 30, 2007 SANTA MONICA, CA

Detect. Diagnose. Deal. Distinguish. The hard "D"s of tackling autism
are explored in a new four part series launched today on
HELPGUIDE.ORG. The journey for parents in discovering their child is
autistic is an arduous one and can be scary if they have no
information to guide them. And the information they do find can be
overwhelming and convoluted - just Google the word "autism" and over
18 million hits come back at you. For the majority of people, the
only tactile example of autism they can hold onto is Dustin Hoffman in
RAIN MAN, so what do you do if your child's symptoms have nothing to
do with Jeopardy? HELPGUIDE, a non-commercial site engineered to
empower people with thorough information presented in a format broken
down and understandable to everyone, has beautifully presented a map
to understanding autism from a parent's perspective. Part one of the
series focuses on the early warning symptoms of development delay that
are red flags to get the child tested and continues in part two with
helpful advice on obtaining professional testing and treatment. Once
a child has been diagnosed, a lifetime of costs can seem prohibitive,
so part three provides tips on how to approach treatment and what
government support is available to help. The spectrum of autism is
vast and exploring the range can help a parent better understand their
child skillfully rounds out part four. Although the series is focused
on helping a parent understand, it is an invaluable resource to anyone
who spends a great amount of time around children, such as teachers or
health care professionals. For more information, go to
