Default Moses Baskets-yes or no

I think recently moses baskets were discussed, but of course I do not
recollect all the discussion. We are still deciding an alternate sleeping
arrangement in our room for the baby (aside from our bed) and think a moses
basket would be handy. For those that used one, did your baby like it and
more so, did you like to use it? I found one at Target online for $39.99
and think that is a good price, considering one of the local children's
furniture store sells one for $109.00.

TIA,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
We used a Moses basket for DD for about 2 1/2 months. It was right next
to our mattress, which is on the floor, but somehow she always ended
up in our bed! I found myself not wanting to disturb her when she fell
asleep nursing, and just fell asleep next to her. I guess I was also
afraid I'd wake her up and she wouldn't be able to put herself back to
sleep. Well, we're still working on that one. :-) I didn't actively
seek a basket, but was gifted with a hand upholstered one from a
friend, so I liked it because it was really precious and I could keep
DD's dolls in it later. I think $39.99 is a fair price for one, but I'd
ask friends who have recently had infants, because they might be *very*
willing to let you borrow it because basically, it just takes up space
when you don't need it anymore. I may have a hand-me-dwon bassinet
(that doesn't rock, though) for anyone who needs one in the Los Angeles
area. I've got a friend who might need it, but might be borrowing from
someone else. If she doesn' t need it, is there any one that would
like it?

I did not use it at night (co-slept), but loved it during the day for
putting her down in whatever room I was in.

Plus, it's so darn cute.

Will be using with #2 -- shortly.

I was never all that fond of Moses baskets just because
they seem a bit small and too low to the ground. I wouldn't
feel comfortable perching them on most things, and I wouldn't
want them near the drafty floor. We had a cradle, which I
loved. Of course, we have other kids and cats. Maybe perching
a Moses basket on something wouldn't be as much of an issue
for you.

Best wishes,
Ericka

My opinion- no. Use a well-built laundry basket.

Or actually, if I was going to spend money I'd have done just what I did-
Pack n Play with bassinett feature OR what I didn't do but might have been a
better idea, Arms's Reach Cosleeper. Or, just a bassinet.

I just think, and it is only my opinion, that Moses Baskets are a waste of
money. But, so are other things that I myself have so.....take that with a
grain of salt.

ours came with a stand and it was stable enough, but folded easily, Jill is
right, a laundry basket does just as well, but they don't come with stands,
for me I could put the moses basked right next to my bed at just the right
height, bassinets and cosleepers are uncommon in England, most small babies
sleep in carrycots (the kind you put on a pushchair frame) or moses baskets.

DD had a bedside cradle that she slept in for maybe one total hour It
took years to get her to sleep by herself. The moses basket looks to take
up the least amount of space, and like you said, can be used for dolls
later. Thanks for the advice.
