I have always thought of bars as inappropriate for children. The ones I've
been to(two actually but I hear they're all the same where I live) were
smoky and full of drunk people and loud music.

This was a more upscale place, and in CA, where it might
well have been smoke-free. I think I would have been comfortable
with DS there at that age, but unlikely to be comfortable myself
(let alone with a baby) somewhere smoky and full of drunk people.

What kind of bars are you frequenting?

Seriously though, many states have smoke-free laws and not all are what you
think of as the typical "bar". Think a bit more upscale.
