Former City Councilman Accused Of Beating Son

CINCINNATI -- Former City Councilman Sam Malone admits that he hit his
teenage son with a belt, and he argues that physical discipline is
sometimes necessary for parents to keep their kids in line.

"I took the belt in my hand," Malone testified in court Wednesday. "I
had the belt kind of doubled, and the buckle of the belt in the palm of
my right hand. I spanked him."

But prosecutors argue that Malone crossed the line between discipline
and violence, and left marks on his son that lasted for six months. ...
