Discrimination against CP Dads in Canada by the CRA
Since I have been seperated and divorced, I have had my tax return
audited 60% of the times I have filed. Each time they ask for proof that my son lives with me, plus other personal information. The Canada Revenue Agency insists that the checks are random, but the math doesn't work for me. If they randomly check less than 1% of returns, then checking mine 60% of the time is not a statistical anomoly, it clearlly indicates specific targetting. I suspect that the computer checks divorced, male, child deduction - this must be wrong. I am looking for any other custodial fathers in Canada that have experienced similar discrimination by the Canadian Revenue Agency. Please email me. Thanks, Dave Flewitt |

Discrimination against CP Dads in Canada by the CRA
Iam one of those fathers in Canada that has been audited. Divorced..
having my son live with me full time. I remember the one question they asked was why I was not claiming child support as an income. I looked at them with my Accountant, and told them I don't claim it, because I'm not getting it. And then they asked where my Ex-Wifes file was and why she had not filed. I told them they would have to speak to her, and that she currently lives in Ireland, so you may have a little trouble forcing her to file one. But as far as the random audits... My questions is for how many times are you talking about? Like 20 years worth, or 3 years... Because I was audited 2 years in a row. However I don't see the problem with being audited.. all my ducks are in a row.. and my papers are all in order.. so bugger them. SpiderHam77 |

It is time fathers get together and try and fight the CRA and their brutal laws. I am going to my MLA as a starting point but if anyone knows some support groups for fathers they can pass them along. The two rules which are especially tough on me are not being able to claim the child support I pay to my ex on my taxes (for children born after 1995), and the fact that I can't claim my children as dependents on my taxes, eventhough I have them 50% of the time. If anyone knows the exact wording of these rules, the name/code of these rules, and when they were created, please let me know!
Thanks for your help. Let's get these laws changed for struggling fathers everywhere. Hoya Guy Quote:
