Computer Game Recommendations
I think I asked this before, but I can't find it. Anyway, I'm
looking for Preschool-level software programs that are educational, varied, and interesting to kids. Whatever title that interests your child would be of interest to me. Thx. P. Tierney |

Tierney When my daughter was a pre-schooler (now approaching 12), she used a Mac and her favorite program was one that was built with Director, called Rodney's Fun Screen. It contained one game that touched on phonemic awareness, one on counting, several on pattern matching, and was quite entertaining for her. Unfortunately, I don't think it continued to evolve with the operating systems. She also adored the Broderbund "Living Books" which are probably also now out of print, since Broderbund was bought out. (I should try and sell mine on eBay since she no longer uses them.) -- "There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary numbers and those who don't." ----------------------------- Byron "Barn" Canfield http://www.headsprout.com "Where kids learn to read." |

At the bottom, you can click "all games," and there's a bunch to choose from. DS loves it, can't get enough of it. There's a lot of variety and best of all, it's free. |

Whatever title that interests your child would be of interest to me. Thx. If the child can't yet use a mouse, try Jumpstart Toddler, and/or Reader Rabbit Toddler. Those seem to be the best for teaching mouse skills among other things. Now that my 3yo has mastered the mouse, his favorites are Jumpstart Preschool, Reader Rabbit Preschool, Elmo's Preschool (I sense a trend here), several Blues Clues games, Living Books (especially Doctor Seuss' ABC's) We have some Edmark games that are good too which we bought under a different name but I believe are now called Millie and Bailey Preschool. We also have a nice one called Lambchop Loves Music. Most of these date from when my older boys were preschoolers, but a lot of them are still available now (many of them quite cheaply through those "free" plus shipping offers). Not quite as educational, but good for creativity, my older boys both enjoyed a Play Doh Creation studio game when they were younger, but the little guy hasn't gotten interested yet. Good luck and have fun!
