Physical Therapy
Well, I just got back from my consultation with a physical medicine
doctor and as it turns out I have a misalignment of the pelvis, in both joints in the back of my pelvis though more on the right than on the left. The doc said he could even feel it by placing his hands on the back of my hips. I guess it was that obvious. This is what has been causing the acute pelvic/pubic pain I've been enduring for the past 14 weeks. And as it turns out I don't have any irrable bowel or pinched nerve problems at all. It was just from the the ligaments on the left, front side of my pelvis being stretched and stressed more than on the other and the stress on the joints that was causing the pain. They've scheduled me for my first physical therapy session Thursday afternoon. The lead physical therapist even canceled his lunch on that day so they could get me in so quickly. Awww.... how sweet! I guess his wife had the same problem with all her pregnancies so he's really sympathetic. They're going to schedule me at the least 2 times a week for the next couple weeks and if I haven't noticed a significant difference as far as pain is concerned than they'll send me to the area physical therapy specialist, or if he's booked to the nearby University therapy center. They're worried about the misalignment affecting my ability to have a vaginal delivery effectively. They were actually fairly shocked that my OB let it go on this long without referring me before. I'm just glad that I decided to raise enough hell to finally get something done about it. I'm looking forward to being pain free for the first time in 4 months! Angela EDD #1 5-13-04 |

I'm so glad that you got to see a physical therapist and they might be able to help you. It would certainly be nice to be pain free again! The pelvis becomes very flexible during pregnancy and labor, so hopefully it won't impede a vaginal birth. Good luck! Hope the therapy goes well! -- Em mama to L-baby, 6 months old |
